New 4.2 brake kit: SHPubs/Tower View

Was down in Crawley yesterday, and the day rapidly turned into a who's who of the TVR aftermarket world: It was great to meet Mark Adams, Tim Lamont, Steve Heath and all at Austec!
Steve's car had an interesting prototype front brake upgade, which I hope we'll hear more about from him or Tower View..Interesting to have more alternatives for us 4.2 owners: of course Joolz has been offering an upgrade path for a while.
Oh, and the car's a lot smoother in traffic now, thanks to Mark and Paul

The other 4.2 decided to throw a big end or a crank bearing. started complaining after the first set up run so the session was abandoned. The car is now at Tower View waiting for me to take it apart to see what the damage is and what I'm going to do moving forward.
Several different ideas being considered but all depends on how repairable the original engine is I'm afraid and budgets. Good job I still have the Griff so I can take a bit of time and good job I have most of the info for the Cerbie book already.

Not sure. Rolling roads are more aggressive than caning simply because they are trying to simulate road conditions and that has to include air flow. The bigger the engine the more air flow needed.
As a result the car does get hotter/warmer than it would normally experience and this will find any weak link. It was also one of the warmer days since getting it back on the road.
One interesting fact is that the air con pump had seized and I am wondering if this may have contributed to the failure as it is driven by the crank. It seized and this was enough to nip the bearing. I'll find out when I take the engine apart but if it is the crank bearing, then that might well explain what triggered the whole event.
The dials were indicating about 265 bhp but I am not sure you can read anything into that as the run was aborted.
Yes it is annoying especially after all the work myself and Tower View had put in, but crap happens and life would be dull without. I just wish I could organise when the crap happens. ...

very sorry to hear that..mine got as far as home before either the clutch or the slave went..and I need to find out why it was showing +37% adaptive enrichment before the first power run..maybe I ought to get a Griff as well.

indeed, that shows a very obvious fault which should have been addressed before any mapping. the 4.2s never get that far out as the fuelling is very close already .. once the fault is cured you'll probably find it needs remapping all over again as the ecu will be compensating for a bad map on a good car as opposed to a good map on a faulty car which is what you have got now I think, it'll be disguising the fault now

Actually Joolz, the "very obvious fault which should have been addressed before any mapping" was a misfire caused by an excessively weak mixture.
Frankly I am disappointed to see a comment of this type from someone of your standing. Since the car is maintained by you, I would have expected it to be in good shape.
With regard to the adaptations, they are not at all unusual in an un-mapped car in our experience. The Cerbie in question was running so weak that it was misfiring, which causes a large amount of Oxygen to appear in the exhaust. Hence you will see abnormal adaptations in the map.
Where the car is properly set up, then 12% or less is very good. The adaptation values will normally wander around, simply due to the fact that throttle angle metered systems have no other way of responding to the normal changes that occur due to the aging of the engine.
