Found my power steering problem, spasmodic failure when the car became very hot. The fluid had gone grey and thin, burnt? Changed it and now it's fine. Went on the Beachy Head drive yesterday and no problems.
Refurbed rad and new otter switch have brought my running temp back to 75 to 90 (running or traffic) so all fixed there too!

Hmmm. Grey. I've never seen that before, unless someone has put the wrong fluid in the reservoir at some time past (e.g. antifreeze). Just so long as the greyness isn't caused by metal particles.
Mine did turn to a strawberry milkshake when some water got into it once! It took two or three changes to get it to look normal again, since there is as much fluid in the rack as the reservoir.
In all my most recent cars, I have run Amsoil synthetic ATF. You can get it from Demon Tweeks - hideously expensive but worth it! The best run I had with this stuff was 120,000 miles from a clean fill in a new system, so no change necessary!
