Dealers and distance

Am I being foolhardy looking at distance for a dealer to part ex my 911 against a cerb. I ask because inveriably there will be something go wrong with a cerb at sometime or another which means a return visit to the dealer. I have got my local dealer on look out for a car but it would be good to find a dealer who dealt with both marques who may give me a better deal. Anybody bought at distance and lived to regret it. It's not my first Cerb so I am going in with my eyes open. Perhaps some reccomendations?.

My Porsche is a 930 Turbo only selling because I can afford something newer (unexpectedly).If the link above doesn't work it's on the 911 listing. If I didn't have a part ex I probably would buy private.

Personally had a 2 hour round trip to TVR Power for the Cerb & Tuscan for servicing, even though my nearest dealer was only 10 mins away - just to ensure decent work, price, etc. (Thankfully Joolz was only 30mins up the road, mind, if I needed mods, etc).
Mrs. Fish (+ hubby) live near me in Derbyshire, yet had their car serviced up at Hexham horseless (a good 400 mile round trip) because of the quality of service, etc. The dealer would meet them halfway (literally - physically) to switch Tiv for courtesy car.
Personally, I'd sell the Porsche privately first if you can live without a car for a few weeks. I'd maybe even pick up some £500 beater to keep you mobile whilst Cerb hunting. Would then consider private, indy, and dealer, and weigh up all the cars/deals on offer.
Alternatively, you could buy an XKR and not worry about where the nearest dealer is - there's bound to be one around the corner, and you'll only bother looking them up once a year for the £250 or so service.

If I'm honest can't stand selling private,I've already been approached by a few chancers for the 911 and they dont understand why I wont let them drive my car.Hence the part ex scenario.The real pig is that I've spent a fortune getting this car sorted, so if I were being sensible I would keep it and enjoy it, but when has sensible ever been an issue!.

As long as you're in no rush, stick to your guns. You'll end up £3k up, with a lot more Cerbs to choose from... if you have the patience. Re. test drives, I wouldn't have a problem with someone driving it if they:
a) had fully comp. insurance cover
b) seemed competent

JSG old bean, don't count your chickens - my Cerb is vastly more reliable than my XK8 ever was..... 
As for distance buying, I bought my first TVR from a mile down the road, my Cerb from the far side of Lincoln, when I live in Worcestershire, so I wouldn't worry too much. If you're getting a warrantly supplied, check it's a true third-party thingy and not just a dealer-endorsed pot of money. That way you can get repair work done anywhere, and you don't have to return to the selling dealer.

Yes 5 mins from Doug and John at David Gerald ,they are on the lookout for a car for me at the moment,Hopefully find something soon. Still prefer to sell my Porsche private though and obviosly get a better deal.

Joolz at Joospeed gets people from all over the place, even abroad so lots of people who own TVRs travel along way. I travel around 55mls to get to my nearest dealer as Sheffield is a blackspot for official TVR dealers but once out of warranty there is no better than Joolz.
