V8 AJP engine

I was told the cerbie V8 bottom end has some relation to a judd f1 bottom end, does anyone know if there is any truth in this or any idea of its origin ?

Its a plane crank, like most V8 F1 engines. I was told that its simlar to the DFV Cosworth.

The AJP is definitely NO Judd - I can assure you of that. Before Mellings V8 became the AJP when John Ravenvroft and Peter Wheeler put their hands in the pie - Al's engine was a very different piece of kit intended for a very different market and company - anyway, to cut a long story short, what you have now is a production level pile of crap that was way better in its original form - well I suppose 38k for a Cerbera back then did entail some major cost cutting exercises and fecking the engine up from original spec was one of them.... I had to bloody go back down the routes and undo what they fecked up at my own expense for the Phoenix project.... rant over...

The Judd = one of the most respected names in race engines.

Mellings original design = a serious piece of kit that never really took off, sadly

TVR comes along and pushs out the AJP V8 = the above without bones and clothing!

Oh well, I'm sure the difference in price would have been just around the borderline of 30-40k on top if they carried across the original spec thousandth-for-thousandth.

Ash you are continually slagging of Cerbs and seem to contradict yourself from post to post!

Although you may be right about some of what you say it does naw a bit when you keep on about it.

At least our Cerbs, as dodgy as they are will be drivable on the road unlike your nutter mobile .

I got better things to do with my time than chat shite all day. Theres a lot I can say about the cerb that would tear the avid cerb lovers heart to peices - but I'm not, why not? cos I feckin love the cerb too! so stop shitting on me, save it for the meets over a tequilla when I get a chance to shit back. BTW I noticed in another thread you said the Cerb felt more special than the T350?

Cerbera's really are special cars .

Really like the XKR but could never own one simply because of the auto box.

There's no substitute for a manual experience imo, heel+toe being a large part of the enjoyment I get from driving .

The noise? Ah, but the engine in the Jag is a PROPER V8. With a PROPER V8 sound. Not like 2 escorts strapped together. Seriously - with sports pipes on, it sounds like a Chim or a Griff. And I'm amazed at how much attention it gets - it's probably the bodykit, etc. that totally transform it, but it still makes kids point, and adults (albeit purple-rinse haired ones ) stop in their tracks.

The handling. Hmmm. Yeah. You might just have a point there. It's definitely a quicker point-to-point car (especially in the wet/snow/dark), but it does require further fettling under the arches, that's for sure.

A new Tamora at £36k with a 3 year warranty is VERY tempting, to be honest. But I won't be back for a while yet. Saving up for a DB9/AMV8 is even more tempting, tho.

I agree - auto boxes are foul, foul things. The XK's is the best one I've come across, mind (it does have the semi-auto side to it too). I'll most likely have the tiptronic doo-dads all sorted out within the next two months.

It was all meant in jest - I'm sure the Jag is a very capable car. I almost bought a Masser 3200 (auto) so I wasn't far off James's choice.

I'm still waiting for the t350 to be prepared so I can't make any informed comments. However, from my limited exposure the t350 seems a better everyday proposition, though it's lost some character in the process (which the Cerbie has in abundance).

They're all great cars and certainly much better than the American auto barge I'm driving this week!!
