Two straps over the tank. They bolt to the body behind the helmet egg and in the boot floor. Bolts removed.

Control boxes marked and unplugged.

Hose clip for the filler loosened top and bottom.

What am I missing?

This carpet glue is the most diabolical adhesive I have yet to encounter in life, but could that really be stopping it moving at all?

It needs to come out to replace the hose from it to the pump which had perished and split slightly.

Of all my work on the car recently this is a comparatively simple job. Will take but an hour rage .....

There's a breather pipe as well?

Anything in the workshop manual?

Yep, scoured those and come up with nothing new. Breather pipe is a known entity so I'm a bit stumped.

Will peel back all of the carpet over the course of many days and cut away at glue with a stanley knife over many more days.

I would hazard a guess that the filler neck is causing you issues. It is a tight wriggle to get the tank out from what I can remember (stripped the car 3 years ago!) As mentioned, there is a LP fuel return on the driver side of the tank - about 8mm or 3/8 from memory. Got a nice little suprise when I got the tank out to get to the chassis bolts:
