AJP timing chain
Discussion
I know most the chaps on here won't have done enough miles to check this yet. But does anynoe know at what interval the timing chain on the V8 is supposed to be changed? The only reason I ask is that on recent visit to TVR power there were a few engines in there which had suffered from it snapping with the inevitable results

I asked TVR power this question and they didn't know. I don't think the factory really tested their engines to massive milages -thats for us to do.
For what its worth, my engine has just been serviced (106,000 miles) and is still on its original chain and camshafts (well, the whole engine is untouched really). The chains are pretty hefty, I hope mine either just gets noisy or the tensioner will run out of adjustment rather than snapping.

I was told if it goes in for major engine work after 40,000 it gets changed.
Tis a shame mine snapped at 30,000 then![]()
Mine was a *nice* xmas present from the purple peril

Actually, yes, thats what they said to me too when I asked. They replaced them as a precaution. Of course to replace the chain (if you have aircon and hence a longer crank snout) you need to take the engine out.....hence my choice to keep an eye on it.
