Alarm gone manic !

Car sat in garage for 24 hrs plus,
then it goes berserk, no attempted entry etc.

Will not switch siren off
However car will start no problem
Eventually siren stops, then get intermitent chirping from it.

Took it for a run to the dales today, and it started chirping occasionally

What do you think, possessed ?
Or needs new alarm controller or just siren ?

My thought is siren, the internal battery goes dead after a while.

Intermittent chirping is a classic sign

Yep, is so that if it's disconnected it then becomes a self powered unit.

Something to bear in mind when you've got your bonce buried deep in the wheel arch, and pull the wires off.

Got exactly the same problem with mine, keeps going off and pi$$ing me right off. You could have the same problem as mine, I was informed by a dealer that apparently the location of the sounder is such that it gets splashed with water and dirt and it’s inevitable it will go wrong. When I disconnected the sounder from the alarm unit it stopped.

Apparently there are two types of alarms, the earlier ones have the cable hard wired into the sounder and the later ones have a plug & socket on the sounder. Spares for the earlier alarm are rare and not supported any longer by the factory, therefore if yours is an early one then you can either find a good second hand unit, upgrade to a new one or go for an aftermarket one.

I found out I have the earlier type of alarm and have decided to replace the whole lot and update it to the later tvr one, the car is with the dealer but still waiting for the ‘old to new’ connection lead from the factory. I know some might say I could get an aftermarket one fitted for a lot cheaper but I didn’t want the situation of finding electrical problems at a later date and the dealer blames the alarm fitters and vice versa.

I don’t know if it’s secret squirrel or not but I thought it best not to broadcast where the sounder unit is located, if you want to know I will happily e-mail the location to you.

I think most people would find out where the siren is as soon as it starts going off.

Short term fix is probably just to disconnect the siren from the unit.
I wont post that info but if you email me I'll tell you where it is.

I assume as an RO that you aren't trying to steal a car

Took rear wheel off tonight spotted sounder/siren
looks like a sealed unit so went hunting for the control box. Found it, had a little peek inside
could not see any battery.
So shall remove siren tomorrow night
