Just wondered what people had been able to barter the price of Cerberas down to from the stated asking price, e.g. if it is on sale for £20k, can you reasonably expect to pay £19k for it etc?

I would also be very interested to know this. I got a Chim about a year ago, got 1k off the price, down to 21k from a main dealer. Thought I may be able to get more, but liked the car too much and it was a popular colour, so could not wait arround with a lower offer.

I have noted that some of the cerbs around the 30k mark have been reduced by 3k in the show room if they have not sold in 6 months or so. The web site price however, is always stated at the original price of 30k though...

As the saying goes..if you don't ask you don't get...
It also depends if you a cash, trade in or finance and what extras you are after.

A dealer near me has a 996 GT3 was
£61k

they have just dropped it to
£53k

they have had it for a while but that is a serious drop

The trick with any dealer, TVR or otherwise, is to go with the price that they paid for the car in you mind... the deal price rests somewhere between that and the asking price, its up to the skill of the buyer and salesman where that is exactly..

If that is the case, I wonder what the dealer paid for it in the first place? There is a lot of comments about the values of TVR's and that dealers "make" quite a lot of money on them (which isnt necessarily the case) - but just goes to show that there is money to be taken off even the most sturdy of anti-depreciation cars.... Or was the colour pink?

However, 'er indoors is pressurising me for a house AND a holiday now, I'm in favour of living in the car and then driving to Amsterdam every now and again but shes just not coming round to the idea for some reason.

Tell me about it. Her indoors has absolutely no interest in cars, except as a method of getting from a-b and back again . In the last four years I have spent around 100K on the house, but I have no mortgage on it . Next target 460SE, whatever she might think

A couple of years ago my car was up for 28K overpriced I know however I did get it for 24K from a dealer which I was pleased with.

When I was looking for a Cerb a year ago I was amazed at the difference between the asking price and the achievable deal price and at how much it varied whether you bought privately, franchised or non franchised. In short, the dealers seem to demand a massive mark up on these cars (probably because they know there will be post sale issues to deal with) hence the big margin between the trade-in price and the showroom price. This means that jo public selling a cerb for 20k will probably have pitched the price based on the equivalent car being 22k or maybe 23k in a main dealer. But that same dealer may have offered him only 16k for the car..

examples (from one year ago on deals I didn't do)- private, very tasty pale blue sp 6 asking 28,000 - mine for 23k

stunning halcyon atlantis 4.5 from a dealer asking 33k - mine (eventually) for 31.5k, who were they trying to kid?

non franchised dealer asking 32k for a dk blue 4.5 - mine for 27k

these are all real examples and were good cars in the right colours. If you want purple or yellow, knock another couple of grand off.

However, that was a year ago and the market was turning south - and ok, I cheated because my bro is in the game so he can always let me know what the trade are willing to underwrite any car at. Interesting huh?

Top advice. At least I now know I can get a reasoable figure knocked off the price.

Ive never had any luck!!

My first chim was advertised at Portfield for 26K and I paid 26K

My latest cerbie was up for 25K and like a cock I paid 25K (Cash)

In the old days cash had power but now it seems credit gets you abetter deal.

You can deal and barter provided you can give the impression you are a serious punter and not a muppet out for a rider in a TVR.

My Cerbie was up at 22k. I pulled up in a 02 plate CL500 merc and just said "I like it, I can pick it up Saturday and i'll give you 21k and I want a year's warranty".
The dealer erm'd and umm'd, walked around a bit, I said "deal"? shook hands and picked it up on the Saturday.

Be brutal, you are the customer. You are right. Don't worry about the dealer. If you are way out he will just say "NO"!!!!

Save yourself money, they are making a profit

Oh lardy ... I wish we were all in the same position as you ... ie lots of cash and not having to worry about the odd few grand or so!

If only buying a Cerbera was as painless and quick as all that ...

Quick update just to prove the point...

without giving too much away there is a Cerby in the current isue of Sprint (which I have only just got around to opening) for sale for a mere £5k more than it was recently sold for and a whopping 10k more than a certain dealer south of London was prepared to pay for it a year ago.

Big margins.

However, the last post was right.. you do really need to be able to offer cash, even if it means you have already borrowed the money (if thats your thang).
