Looking for some assistance in upgrading the front brakes on my 2001 Cerbera.

I've currently got the CP5100 Calipers with the 291mm discs and having spoken to various people I found out that increasing the disc size wasn't an option as that Caliper won't fit anything larger than the 291mm disc.

Not wanting to bore everyone too much I'll keep this short......so has anyone else managed to change from the early 5200 or 5100 Calipers to enable the larger discs to be fitted as I'm clearly doing something wrong.

Have a set of CP6600 which won't bleedin well fit, well not without finding someone who would be willing to machine up a custom spacer/mount.

What I seem to need is a Caliper mounting bracket BUT with the threaded holes at 130mm spacing (same as the mounting holes) which would then allow me to add the extra 9mm spacer.

Any suggestions

Bg developments in Broomsgroove made all the stuff for the race car.

Also I had them make me some spacer mounts to out the calliper you have to a 330mm disc....

Give them a call as they will have kept the drawings etc. Just give them my details. (Mike Saunders)

I have a set of 322mm discs and 5200 calipers I might sell, think with a spacer you can upgrade the standard calipers to a 330mm disc, there's a few companies doing that I think

OK so I thought the same as you, but was running mintex pads all around. Really good on the road, good bite, stopping distance etc, but on the track, faded badly, didn't seem to have the stopping power.

I looked into all the brake conversions that would fit my 17" wheels, in the end went with CL brake pads all around, which has transformed the car's braking

There were 3 types of caliper fitted to Cerbs, 4-bolt CP5200s, 6-bolt CP5200s, and CP6600s.

4 Bolt 5200s can be spaced to a max disc size of 304mm from the standard 391mm that was used on early Cerbs.

6 Bolt 5200s can take up to 330mm discs and were used on mid-era Cerbs.

6600s take 330mm discs but have different mounting centres, 130mm Vs 152mm and were used with different uprights on later Cerbs.

I've been thinking about some CL pads for a while after hearing good things about them for the Cerbera and this post spurred me on to have a look. yikes I'm not shy on spending money on my cars (and my reference point was Demon Twonks) but £410+ for a set of pads. . .

Yep, that's exactly what I thought so as mines a later 2001 with the newer uprights on with the 130mm spacing I wrongly thought that the 6600's would bolt straight on but without the current Caliper mounting block.

I'm going to give BG a call Minday to see if they can supply or machine up a spacer that would help fit the 6600's to my uprights.

Fingers crossed !

You need to go direct (me) less than half that, Tweeks buy from us, feck knows how much margin they want, probably because we don't pay to list in their catalogue!!!

See Brummie - no-one paid anything like that.

Oh and mine were brilliant at Spa, except I forgot the car behind was going to use my braking reference. Seems my car slowed a lot faster than his and the last I saw of him was as he disappeared into the run off at Les Coombs biggrin

My opinion from various upgrades to my front brakes. If you have the original uprights that accommodate the 5200 (with the adapter plate for the offsets) by also using a spacer you can max 304 as said.

If you have the upgraded uprights from the sagaris that takes the 6600s you will only need a spacer with 130 mounting centres and not an adapter plate as the offsets are calculated in the upright. These calipers can take a max of 350mm disc (I know this as it's what I currently use) but I believe the minimum disc you can use is a 320mm due to the design change.

Be sure of exactly what you have and give either Brummie at CL or Martin at Reyland a call

Edited to add pick to show with later upright only a "spacer" not adapter plate is needed. The mounting centres must also be 130

Thanks for that, I'm starting to think that I won't be able to mate the 6600's to the original uprights on the car.........bugger !

Will still try BG in the morning or the other guys if I don't have any luck.

Cheers

Unfortunately your correct as I faced unless you want to pay silly money for a custom bracket. This will cause issues as even the standard 291 disc has an adapter so the fabrication will be "involved"

The options are do the 304mm 2piece upgrade (I recommend calling Reyland and speaking to Martin). Going hi spec 6 pots and selling your 6600s. Getting some 5200 6 bolts to fit max disc of 330 (modified can take 343) and do what you like with the spares.

Or as I did get the sag uprights 125 each from a certain breaker and fit upto a 350mm depending on spacer you choose. Then sold my 5200s and 304mm to a Chim owner pong an upgrade of his own.

Yep, wish I'd thought this through before jumping in :-(

Although TVR parts offer the new uprights at £100 a side I suspect the easier option for me would be to find a set of 6 bolt 5200's then sell the 6600's.

Lesson learned, don't jump into things before thinking them through !

6 bolts would be the more straight forward option but the later uprights were made stronger like for like. it really depends on what you want. My final look is like this and i am over the moon wink

trial and error does build our knowledge base. just very time consuming lol

Very nice !

Yep, it's either replace the uprights OR find a set of 6 bolt CP5200's

Feel a For Sale ad coming on......spotless pair of CP6600 with pads
