Anyone know the power output of the standard

Will be looking to replace that headset once I actually pick up my Cerb (assuming it passes an MOT tomorrow :-) )

Also, who has replaced the standard speakers, and what with? Was the quality much better?

If it's the standard Pioneer, 35w per channel would be about right. I'm not sure if that's 35w RMS, but probably not, probably more like 15w RMS ...

I'm likely to go through a similar upgrade process for mine. Are you just doing the head unit or will you replace the speakers cabling and so on too? I'd like to end up with a quality setup that replaces the original items in the car. Anyone done this?

Well the radio is truly shite and the pops and bangs are very addictive, so you could well be on to something there Also, stepping away from the debate over which colour is the fastest , black is certainly the 'ardest

Blacks are nice. I think they look great with anthracite Spiders on them.

As for stereo, yeah, probably just headset for now, one that allows CD-RW MP3 type media, will then look to go for speakers and a sub in the back possibly at some stage.
I do like decent music on long trips.....

There's all sorts of routes to go down Vinny depending on what type of music you like. Yes the pops and bangs are great fun, but as you say, over a long haul, it's nice to listen to something a little more tuneful!

Did you notice where the speakers are? In a 99, you've probably got low down speakers in the doors, and some in the back somewhere. They're easy enough to replace with something half decent. Plus the "helmet" hole (!!) inbetween the rear seats will take an 8 or 10" subwoofer - not into that sort of game usually myself, but it helped add body to the sound and replace all the bass that was nicked by the sports exhaust!

IMHO, go for the best headunit you can afford, with the best spec (MP3 is indeed a godsend) and then you can do the speakers piecemeal as and when you have time / money.

Hate to plug this on a thread, but I'm about to sell a spare head-unit now the Jag's got a custom fit one in. It's a Pioneer DEH-8400MP one: WMA & MP3 CD player, twin-screen, chrome faced, DAB control, removable face, CD changer & DAB control, 50Wx4 output or so, etc. etc. I bought it for the Cerb originally because the chrome look matches the window buttons, etc. of the Cerb perfectly, and the slidy-out second face puts the volume control in the PERFECT place, rather than the just-a-bit-too-far you normally get.

If you're interested, let me know... even if you don't buy mine, I'd seriously recommend that as even the back-light on the buttons matches the Cerb. Think it retailed at £600 or so. It's just a standard Pioneer stereo... direct replacement for the existing one (assuming you've still got the original, and has the standard connector thingumy-bob on the rear, and the standard Pioneer auto-changer control. Even have a pair of the Pioneer stereo-extraction forks that let you slide the old one out easily that I'll throw in with it.

On my Cerb (which was the normal black tape-player headunit before), it was a case of slide out, unplug, plug in, slide in. All done and dusted in 2 mins flat with no more than those two prongy-thing extraction forks.
