Evening all,

Just trying to get my cars in order - one of which is my early 4.2 AJP that snapped it's crank going around Hethel a while ago. Unsure over what direction to go and loads of other things taking up my time has meant that it's been sat waiting repair for too long now....Now I need to sort this out so my options and problems are:

rebuild - the crank took a lot with it so not even sure if this is an option
replace with 4.2 - not many engines around and worry the snapping of crank might happen again - early crank nervousness
replace with 4.5 - is this an easy swap?
replace with Speed Six - not an option - must be a V8!
replace with LS - tempting but costly
sell as is and buy another - a non-running Cerb aint worth much I'd imagine
buy another anyway and gradually rebuild the original one myself to keep costs down, then sell one of them (or keep two - insane to own 2 Cerbs but tempting....)

I can't bear being without a Cerbera so one of the options above has to happen soon - thoughts, councelling and guidance please....

Cheers

Joe

Buying another AJP engine would probably be the cheapest option, Put the word out on Pistonheads and facebook that your after one and you never know one might just be out there looking for a new home.
There is nothing wrong with the SP6 but your car had a AJP so I would stick with that and as you say the LS looks expensive if it is done properly but pretty much bullet proof and lots of power options as well. But probably around the £15k +,

I had to get my SP6 Cerbera rebuilt and it was just shy of £8k ouch, I have an AJP at the moment but if it went pop I may leave it in the garage until I could afford an LS.

How much damage did it actually do?

Can't remember as it was over a year ago, the garage sent me pictures at the time (which I subsequently now can't find), but I do remember being told the crank snapped in about 4 different places - so shattering is probably a better description.

I'm working on the assumption that the blown engine will either become a long term rebuild project/learning exercise for me, or a coffee table...

Cheers

I have a new block and steel crank if you want to rebuild what you have or a complete 4.2 engine if you want an easier job .

A complete 4.2 engine from Plasticman would be what I would do and sell the bits you have from the the broken 4.2. Quicker and less expensive than the other options.
