The diff in my 2001 4.5lw is started to whine and clonk a bit so I am looking into what options I have on either repairing or changing the diff / LSD.

I would presume its a Hydratrak. I have never found the diff very predictable when pushed hard on a track, it looses grip very easily and does not really appear to work like an LSD should by transferring the power.

I have just fitted a Quaife ATB to my other car a supercharged Peugeot 306GTi6 and it has totally transformed the car. You can actually feel the diff working when you push out of a corner early, it has made a bigger difference to the car than any other single mod including the supercharger.

Has anyone fitted the ATB to their Cerb or any other diff for that matter and seen a marked improvement in traction and predictability.

Also any recommendations of the best place to go if I just get my old one overhauled.

Speak to John - here.

www.readmanracing.co.uk He is the gearbox/diff guru for all TVRs.

Loads of folk on here have sent their units to him for overhaul - he has all the parts and usually turns around in a few days.

+1 for Quaife ATB, fantastic product. This is the first mod I made on my car, before I even picked it up, so I have nothing to really compare with. Handling is reasonably predictable for what it is, but too much power on slippery surface or adverse camber when weight off the rear still = trouble! Would say it fits as part of an overall package of good shock and spring combo, correct geo, lightweight wheels and tyre profile not too low. Quaife will sell you the unit direct, but unless you can do the work yourself it will end up costing a whole lot more for stripping the diff, fitting new internals, refitting diff with all new bushes etc. I guess that a refurbed Hydratak would also work well. Whichever route you choose, let us know how it works out!

Spoke with Readman racing nice helpful guy, they overhauled my water pump / power steering pump assembly when I rebuilt the engine.

They will overhaul the complete diff for under £400 so will use them again as price seems good.

I going to go for the Quaife, Readman told me the Hydratrac works on speed difference between the wheels but the Quaife works on torque loading on the wheels. apparently this makes it more predictable and generally always preferred over the hydratrac.

Think it will only be done once so might as well do it properly.
