Can anyone tell me where it is, and has anyone improved
their radio reception without using a booster.

As far as I know it is located behind the dash. Only way I was able to improve reception was to upgrade to a Blaupunkt with DAB. But I am sure you can get an ariel amplifier.

Good Luck

Not sure whether mines in the boot near the petrol tank. Might be wrong. Its crap anyway. Modwise do an amplified one which is supposed to be ok.

Interesting to hear DAB works for you, does it have an external arial? I heard they have to have them.

I’ve tried just about everything including mod wise – very nice helpful guy but I just couldn’t get it to work even with the help of the very technical bods here at C4 transmission. Fiberglas car & radio = No! I think the Cerb is worse than the Griffs & like as there is much more badly shielded electronics in it. One idea they came up with here was to put one of those stubby rubber ariels on a large metal tray in the boot, I never got round to trying it though…

I should point out some people say the have had good results with the mod wise kit – I guess it depends on your car & the relative positions of the interfering objects.

PS Help a poor dyslexic: How is arial / ariels spelt, the spell checker won’t tell me, just says there both wrong

I recall seeing a post which suggested getting a standard steel whip antenna, extending it and shoving it from the boot space up the cavity inside the C-pillar.

I've not yet tried it, but intend to. You'd also have to run an earth wire, thickish, to the nearest chassis point, probably behind the back seats. That's accessible by pulling the helmet cubby out. You could file off some paint and connect it to the chassis using a jubilee clip.

I also think you'd have to insulate the whip, maybe with some heat-shrink sleeving, so it doesn't rub on the roll cage inside the C-pillar and cause crackling.

I'm not sure what areial is fitted for DAB, however i seem to remember the chappie who did the job mentioned he'd run a seperate earth from the coax to the space frame.
Sorry i can't be much assistance, but i can get good reception in the car. Most importantly I can get Test Match Special on R4 both on the move and at rest.

So you do have an external aerial (thanks essexboy!) then? On the roof?

I tried all that plus some other locations & one of the window mounted ones, both worked great till I switched the ignition on, obviously something causing major interference, but I had lost interest in finding what it was by then. As eddie 4.2 said there’s the CDs & the sub works much better with them
Running an earth wire make the cable shielding work ok, but the aerial still picks up the interference, it needs to be outside a steel body to be properly shielded, that’s where my friends theory of mounting a stubby on a metal tray in the boot came from, the metal around the base of the aerial only needs to be a certain distance from the top of the aerial for it to effectively shield it.
I would say any of the ideas are worth a try if you can be bothered though as no two TVRs are the same

there is a very easy fix provided that you only want FM reception. Go to dixons/comet etc and buy a wire FM aerial- (you know the type that used to hang from a couple of nails above the stereo in your lounge) with a co-axial connector on it. Simply connect it to the co ax cable in the boot and loose lay it on the shelf in the boot containing all the swithches etc

result-perfect fm reception but no am reception - but hey you cant have everything
