So both footwells are very wet and before I get a jug of water and start pouring and searching can anyone suggest the common culprits to help save time? Thnx

3. Wiper motor securing bolts
4. Expansion tank bracket securing bolts
5. Heater pipes
6. Battery tray securing bolts
7. MAP sensor pipe (barometric pressure pipe from rear l/h airbox)
8. Rivnut for scuttle panel
9. Windscreen
10. Door seals
11. Grommets in floorpan
12. Indicator side repeater

Hire a smoke machine and switch it on inside the car.

The water can get in where the smoke comes out.

I did it with herself's car a couple of years ago and I'd found a leak within minutes that had eluded a few of us looking for hours another day.

Not quite as technical as the smoke machine but if you suspect the door seals cut an inch wide strip of paper and, moving it along, keep shutting it in the door.

It should grip reasonably tight, if however it pulls out easily that could be a leak?



This is how we did it on steel bodied cars many years ago, the difference is that with steel it is simple to gently hammer the flange a little to push the seal tighter to the door.

Hard to believe people are still referencing a water ingress points list that I posted over 6.5 years ago.

Leaks can be very, very hard to find but at least the list points people in the right direction.

Check under the carpet for holes that have been drilled by the PO for whatever reason.

If you get water in the boot, check for damage caused by the ARB rubbing in the wheel arch area (not early cars though).

Its been standing still and letting water in. Put (stretched) my chimaera storm force cover over it for now.

Next weekend will 'smoke' it out and see the results. Just hope its 2 reasons not 10!

Check your A pillar where the carbon fibre strip is. Mine was loose and added to a poor fitting door seal saw the water piddle in.
I reglued the area around the strip. I then removed and reset the door seal and squeezed it tight with a black flexible bathroom sealant inside the grip. Both have worked a treat so far. I also ensured the two ends of the door seal were located in the bottom rear corner of the door and that they were especially sealed. This location has worked for me as I wanted the join as far away from inside carpet as possible.

Once I attack it I'll be okay. Still will get a fog machine always good for finding air leaks too.

Mine had leaks from broken sealant around the brake master cylinder fluid reservoir and the door seal on the offside, plus battery securing bolt and door seal on the nearside. Expect multiple reasons!
