thinking of defecting
Discussion
I agree.... I knew someone had a left hooker 355 spider. I think a cambelt service was about £1300,
And i couldn't believe what the build quality was like either. and the interior was very plasticy (sp?) But it did sound awesome
But then it should have done with £3000 worth of exhaust system fitted.
Bud

Must admit. I'd love a 355. Who wouldn't. I guess though that they are more temperamental than a cerbera. I dont know what mileage you do in the cerb a year, but I bet you'd do less in the 355. A friend of mine has a 328, and he hardly brings it out. He does have a Lotus though. Now if you could afford both, then....

I thought about a 355, as you can pick up left hookers for reasonable money.
Unfortuanately, thats the only thing reasonable, as servicing and replacement parts costs are just silly.
My mates brother had a 355, some of the prices he paid for things were ludicrous, seriously......
I'd stick to a Cerb, faster, and get more attention than a Ferrari IMO. Loads of Ferraris around where I live, not seen a single Cerb. Infact there are so many, Im sure the ones who buy silver's and blue's only do it to be "different" lol.
There's also an Enzo that drives around, i'll give the owner of that one thing, that is a bit different. at £600k or whatever they are tho, you'd expect that.

How did I know you lived in Surrey without even looking at your profile?

The following service prices don't look too bad:
www.verdiferrari.biz/servicing.htm
Particularly when you consider that a TVR main dealer is £650 for a 6k service, and £995 for a 12k without doing the tappets.

Take the rose tinted specs off! You've just compared the most expensive TVR dealer with a non-official Ferrari dealer.
Isn't there some unoffical TVR dealer who do servicing for <£400?
If you want to be fair, at least compare TVR power (who are approved servicing agents) with a similar Ferrari dealer.

Well my last 12k service at Offord's cost me around £1k. All the throttle pots needed adjusting, there was a new trackrod end and a new throttle cable required.
You must be right then! Why not post on the Ferrari forum and ask how much their last 12k service cost, all in?
A Ferrari will cost more to run that a Cerbera. How much for the belts changing? What about a clutch (not just the plates)?
That's before you begin to consider that a left hooker will cost twice what your Cerby would to purchase.
If you want one, buy one, but I don't think you can justify it on running costs!
Belt changes on a 355 are an engine out job.... not pretty.
Horizon Motorsport charge £350 for a Cerb service, and yes, you probably will add more on top of that for little bits and pieces - having said that, you'll doubtless have the same for the Fezz, so tot up the figures and it still doesn't make for a pleasant comparison.
Here's an idea - get the 355 for sunday best, and keep the Cerb as the cheap runabout shopping car!

Bugger the costs.
Drive/own as many different cars as you can. You'll be as happy as larry in the 355spider that is for sure. Get a Capristo exhaust on it though.
Going from 355 to Cerb (keeping 355). Not really interested about what is better because they are different cars and will be judged on their own merit. Just be thankful you are in a postition to be able to buy/own/drive one/either/both.
Good luck and have a solid look at the history of the car.

maranellouk said:That's the plan. I also only intend to get one of each marque, at least until I've run out of them. So many people seem to go for 3 or more of the same, and it seems to me there are so many good cars out there that you should try a variety.

As RO of Mid Essex I get to talk to lots of guys...(lucky me
) about the cars they want and those they can only dream about.......
Seems to me that once you know you can afford a car of your dreams...it doesn't matter how much advice of yeah or nay you're given...nothing will stop you going ahead and doing it.
I have seen several guys who 'always wanted a Ferarri' going ahead and doing it...some of whom are back with TVRs and some who never regretted it.
It's like the TVR thing.
If you hanker after a particular model and settle for a different one a little cheaper...generally the hankering does not go away until you decide to sell and get the model you wanted in the first place......
It's an itch that has to be scratched.........
Thing is....if it proves a costly mistake..it's not the end of the world....cars can be sold........may lose a bit of money...but at least the itch was scratched!!!!

...YPI had a yellow LHD 355 spider on loan for a while and if I had kept it the roof mechanism would have needed attention and can definitely agree with the plasticy comment that someone made. For a luxury sports car you don't get much luxury. The sound was amazing though but it never actually felt that fast. the TVR in comparison feels very quick, in my option this is because it lifts when acelerating and drops when braking and the exhaust note just sounds more raw!
The 355 was very easy to drive though and the H gate is a dream.
Good luck whatever you decide.
