I am restoring my Cerbera and while dismantling the chassis I discovered that between the steering rack and the chassis was 12mm of washers acting as spacers. Is this normal? If so, why is the spacing required?

Thanks for any advice

To correct manufacturing "tolerances" ? .... wink

Possibly it's a mod to reduce bump steer?

Later cars do have proper shims. So whilst crude using washer would have the desired effect. I’d replace them with proper shims.

Mine has one thick and one thin.
Whether it is the 5 + 1mm I’m not sure. But from having removed them in the past I think that’s correct.
