....and just walk away from it's burning carcass.

So I've spent best part of £18k getting the chassis done, engine rebuild etc etc and picked it up on Wednesday from HHC.

Ran around in it for a few days with no issues at all. My aftermarket head unit has hands free dialling etc and using it, found that no one could hear me speaking.

Pulled it out this morning to find the mic lead not plugged in. Fished around to get the plug, plugged it in and was pushing the head unit back into place when holy hell broke loose.

Windscreen wipers on, hazards, headlights & main beam and a noise from the boot of the car with the ignition on, ignition off and only the main beam stays on. Also have lost the drivers door and boot release, passenger door still fine. Had to manually open the boot to get access.

I've pulled the battery hoping it'll reset it.

So, six months of off the road, it's gave me two days of pleasant running and it's f'ed up again.

Sounds like you've disturbed the steering wheel ribbon cable.

OMG. The car. Its possessed!
Seriously, that is disappointing. It may not be unconnected (groan) with the recent work at HHC so I would be on the phone at 9am on Monday if they would take it back ASAP to see what they can find. They are very good at customer care and if responsible they will fess up and sort it out FOC. Then you might gradually regain some confidence in the car.

It'll not be anything HHC has done, it'll be something I've disturbed while shoving the head unit in.

I've found fuse 7 blown, replaced it and all is well again. smile

Nice to hear. But should all that happen when a fuse blows??

It's a Cerbera thing.

I think having a totally reliable, £400, 178k mile Volvo V70 estate with heated seats and working heaters/aircon to run around in while it was off the road has softened me. I need to take a few man-up pills and get my Cerb head back into action.

Byff...like you say it's a Cerbera thing .I spent nearly 20k on my body off refurb along with lots of new shiny bits. Its inaurgaral trip was a weeks trip to Southern Ireland to drive the Ring of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Highway...and wild it was ...it pi**ed it down with rain all week and I ended up with about 4 inches of water in the footwells. I think when the body was put back on the doors were mis-aligned thus letting water in. Fair play though ,took it back after it's shakedown and this and a few other teething niggles were fully sorted ,

Fuse 7 gauges , mirrors and radio, dim dip and on my car, the boot lock

You'll have shorted it pushing the radio back in, so you've got an exposed positive connection somewhere

This.. I would take the radio back out and check for the exposed connection!

I'm finally back to a position where I feel comfortable with the car again.

Only thing I found exposed was the ariel connector, nothing else untoward. The radio isn't right, it only plays out the rear speakers and uses the front for hands free speaking on the phone. I'll probably get someone to improve the audio when the interior gets sorted once my credit card has recovered. Other than that, it's sitting nice and flush and my Samsung S3 is working as it should for the RS AJP app.

The app has confirmed my speedo is under-reading by about 7mph, but that's better than it not working at all, even after a trip to speedy cables. However now I've realised I've gone past police cars at 77mph and not the 70mph I thought I was going yikes

The alarm fob went out of sync, so had to do a battery off/on job to re-sync it.

I get a soft front tyre after 3-4 days, not too much of an issue.

I'm now 400 miles into running the engine in and discovered a few oil spots on the cam covers. Hopefully it'll just be a breather loose or something, i'll pop by HHC to see what they're verdict is later.
