And the many tones of Reflex Charcoal!

Been trying to get a TVR since 2011, finally got an amazing example from str8six (wonderful guys) - 2001 4.5 V8, some of you may have seen it at their workshop over the last year.
Shipped it over to Ottawa Canada, and am just starting to enjoy it.

Despite paying a premium to ship it in a sealed container (on it's own), the journey wasn't kind and it picked up lots of scratches.
After 2 days of polishing by a very talented local detailer, and it's looking as it should be (again):

The clear-coat is very soft, and the sun is very intense here, so full coverage in PPF seems like a must-have.
Outside the PPF shop:

After the equivalent of an MOT - they literally drove it around the block, checked the thickness of the brake discs, had a quick look underneath and then gave it a certificate of "safety and conformance for road use", for as long as I own the car!
They didn't check the lights, wipers, mirrors, horn etc
Oh, and the test cost about 4 times the price of a good old MOT in Blighty - British Standards are still the best, the world over!

Another:

People are very intrigued, "what is it?" and "wow, that's the most beautiful car I have ever seen!".

I always wanted Grigio Titanio, but I can totally see the magic of the "Reflex" colours, and charcoal is amazing in the sun.

The usual TVR "character" - it's not running right (might be fuel), AC has stopped working, already spent 8 hours on my knees fixing the door solenoid (how to, to follow), but it's the best car in the garage!

Congrats! Nice color!
It's already an head turner in France but in Canada it should be really amazing.

I am totally enthralled with it.

You are all right about how special these cars are...

Nice move!
Get used to others following you, shouting out of car windows at you and generally gawping! I find sitting at the lights the worst as everyone always looks - not good if you have an itch and need to scratch it!
Only hadn’t one negative comment on a Facebook spotted page with many positives and smiles along the way - enjoy a great car. thumbup

Doug is hugely popular and has great appeal to the masses.
Unfortunately, he did nothing for the TVR image in NA, in fact, he made it a bit of a laughing stock.
Shame really, because everything he pointed out, as ridiculous about the Tuscan is exactly what makes it such a cool car.
Of course, he doesn't understand that, and now a couple of million American's don't get it either - nothing new there I guess!

I won't be emailing Doug anytime soon, but I will be making my own video at some point.

I didn't think that his review was particularly unflattering. He's all about quirks and features which he pointed out (along with a few typical boring TVR reliability stereotypes). On the whole I got the impression he liked the car. Just a shame we didn't get to see him drive it and get his thoughts on performance (he usually drives them).

Look forward to seeing your video, Reflex Charcoal is my favourite TVR colour smile

Beautiful Cerb!

Can you get 98RON over there? I remember 93 or something being the max I saw when I was there a few years ago..

IIRC US and UK RON measurements aren't equal. 91 US maps to 95 UK and 93 to 97 and so on.

Yes, this is my understanding.
We can get 94 which maps to 98 RON I believe, but it only costs £0.91 per litre.

Between the ridiculously easy MOT test and the cheap cost of fuel, Cerb ownership across the pond isn’t looking too onerous, if you don’t mind all the attention/questions that is...

Congratulations, your cerb looks stunning.

Perhaps you should make up a little card with some stats about the car and stick it in the rear window. That’s what I always feel like doing when I take the cerb somewhere foreign smile. People are forever asking questions about it.

Thanks, I am quite smitten!

I like the idea of a card - we have many car shows in my locale, they commandeer a supermarket car park and people just bring along their interesting cars, on a summer evening. I'm planning to attend these, and will make up a nice card with all the right details on it.

Looking forward to showing the Canadians some real British engineering and the 'petrolhead discussions' that typically ensue.

Have had one die-hard Corvette owner pour over the car and all the little details - his vette is feeling very ordinary to him now...

USA use AKI rating not RON. From wiki:

In most countries in Europe (also in Australia and New Zealand) the "headline" octane rating shown on the pump is the RON, but in Canada, the United States, Brazil, and some other countries, the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI), and often written on pumps as (R+M)/2. It may also sometimes be called the Posted Octane Number (PON).

Because of the 8 to 12 octane number difference between RON and MON noted above, the AKI shown in Canada and the United States is 4 to 6 octane numbers lower than elsewhere in the world for the same fuel

What a beauty! Have you found a decent workshop that will be able to look after it yet?

I have found a pretty good place to do regular servicing, engine and transmission work. They are a little daunted by the prospect, but with this forum and str8six on the phone, I doubt they’ll struggle too much.

Fingers crossed!!!
