Search not working so...

Clutch peday went a bit floppy, nothing for the first few inches of travel, and it was hard to change gear.

After abt 10 mins it came back to normal.

I'm guessing fluid low or a leak, where do I check this? Is it the cap on the drivers's side near the windscreen? That's full.

And no discernable fluid in footwell, I don't think. If the slave cylinder is leaking where would I see fluid?

Advice appreciated!

The cap on the drivers side near the windscreen is probably the brake fluid (if it has a couple of wires on it)
Clutch reservoir is under a plastic panel near the brake reservoir. It's usually sealed with some mastic or similar.
Slave would show a leak under the car (bellhousing area). Doesn't always show though.

Could be fingers starting to go.

Hope it's nothing too bad..

Andy,

I got your e mail late last night, sorry I didn’t reply.

Do you have any fluid around the pedal? If you do then it has to be the master cylinder. Your symptoms suggest that this may be the case. From my experience the slave cylinders just tend to give up, very quickly. Take the cover off from the clutch master cylinder and check the fluid level. Look at the underside of the reservoir cap and see if there are any black deposits, a sure sign your seal are going to expire soon.

The master cylinder repair kits are available from most motor factors but I don’t have the information to hand to tell you which car the cylinder is off. I do know that it’s a terrible design, the master cylinder reservoir is at a 30-degree angle, and not level as it should be but it seems to work ok.

If it is the slave then make sure you get the seal kit from Joolz. He uses the up-rated specification ones and they last a lot longer. Unfortunately the slave cylinder is unique and it’s not from another car. Also while the bell housing is off take a look at the clutch wear and change the release bearing.

Good luck, mail me at work if I can be of anymore help.
