I've just fixed the little speaker that sits behind the indicators on a circuit board so it now beeps with the indicators and when locking the car.

Is it possible to add/program the gear change beep? It's a 97 4.2

you should get rev limiter beeps. It gets more frantic as you get towards the redline

That's no problem, no beeps from high revs.

Didn't know if it was possible to add/remove or update via software.

Hello,

At which rpm do the beeps start?

So I'm thinking no handbrake or MiL light are part of the problem and if not they need repairing.

I put a meter across the fuse on the circuit board that has the mil, indicator lights etc, and got 35m ohms and increasing, very poor continuity but maybe spec.

Can anyone confirm if 1. I'm on the right track and 2. That the fuse that appears to be marked E1/2A, little fuse 0m5 amp (pico) is knacked

Over 7k somewhere, can't remember where.
I have the car in at work today - I may have to find out for you on the way home biggrin

Ive always wondered about the “beep” to change gear - 7k revs seems way high to me.

Personally, my car is so loud at anything above 5k revs, I doubt I would hear any “beep”!!

Also, with no actual red line on the rev counter, what really is the safe amount of revs?

Sure mine is about 7000, however, after its last service, I have now lost the MIL light, the beep when the ignition is on and not started and the shift beep.

frown

Indicator buzzer works as normal, which I believe is the same unit.

I had to replace the pico fuse on mine ( a quick google suggests it is a 500mA, available ebay etc). You should also get a beep with the indicators as well as the warning lamp.

I would be interested if anyone knows of a replacement for the buzzer as mine has an intermittent contact and i couldn't work out what the spec was.

I think these are the ones that I bought. I have spares, but unfortunately I dropped off my boxes of bits at Powers this morning, otherwise you could gladly have had one.

There is a map in the ecu for the shift light / buzzer. I've never changed it, but it looks possible to have different shift light rpm points depending on throttle position, but also *should* be relatively easy to change the rpm at which the shift light comes on anyway.

On my car it comes on at 7200 as shown by the rev counter rather than RS-AJP

Even when my car had sports tails the beeper is very easy to hear above engine and exhaust noise

I haven't noticed any increase or change as the revs increase above 7200

You can hear it quite clearly at both the 15 second and 25 second point in this short clip

Tried it on the way home last night and thanks to a BMW118, on the way into work this morning. He decided that the outside lane of a dual carriageway was his, then as I moved left, that the left lane and then the centre of both were his. However a Cerbera flies around the outside on a roundabout biggrin

7200 the beeps start, gets more frantic as the revs get higher.

Sounds like a better warning system than the continuous beep that I get on mine

Great video!
Beep at 7000ish/ indicator beep plus on ignition??????
I’ve never had any of these so obviously broken or disabled from the outset of my ownership!
Don’t think I have missed it though apart from the odd time I’ve left my indicator flashing!

i'll try and get a new fuse and so if it that helps out.

For anyone not getting a sound remove the console surrounding the dash, it's only 2 10mm nuts. Check the connection of the small speaker which is at the top of the circuit, it has 3 legs going into the board and is about 1" wide. It's likely one of the legs has a bad contact.

If you're a diy type resolder it and turn up the sound...
