Exhaust preference??
I have been thinking about changing the standard rear box for a performance alternative until I done a search on the forum to find possible alternatives, problem is is there a preferred upgrade options are as follows:

Standard system but de-catted. Cheaper option but will have to refit cats for the MOT.

Sports rear silences.

Sports rear silences and de-catted – From what is have read TOO loud.

Are there any performance increases with any of the options or is it only the sound / volume that is changed with upgrading?

Thanks

Ian

You face the same dilemma as me ;-)

I am due to have my exhaust repaired friday, back box is in bits.

So it's a case of replacing the back box at £350, on top of that I was going to decat.
Alternatively, at the slightly cheaper price, I can decat and put on sports tails.
I personally think the Cerb 4.5 is a little quiet anyway, in comparison to say my Grif 500 that had a sports pipe.
So right now I am leaning towards decat/sports tails.

Those who have the latter config, whats your true opinion of the setup and sound?

Absolutely no performance gains at all. Some on here even tell of a drop off in mid range with a de-cat and sports exhaust.

However........The Noise! Got to be done. I thought mine actually felt more responsive with a sports zorst and de-cat, but it might well have been my imagination!

I decatted mine yesterday (already have sports pipes) and the noise is unreal! Maybe it will be too much in the long run but i'm going to try it for a few days or until i get pulled!!!!! It's like a violent cracking and popping noise you get, some may like it lot, others not so much..............

Got a full cat-back stainless system from Hayward and Scott put on mine as soon as i bought it. Thought the standard system was just way too muted.

Now it sounds incredible . Very loud even with the cats still in place. Really wouldn't want it any louder.

I would go for a new good-quality zorst and leave the cats. Can't be @rsed with removing and replacing them every time MOT comes round.

Choices choices.
I have 11mths MOT left so not bothered about CAT replacement at this time.

Hmmmm..... Im definitely swaying towards decat/sports.

To remove the cats only took me 30 minutes on my back, so when MOT time comes around it won't be a major hassle.

Sports exhaust and decat for me..... It's soo loud it's obscene.
It scares old people and makes small children cry. And the flames, or so I'm told by the people who are behind me on runs.

Yep, very, very loud! Simon and I were stood behind it when started up and although we knew what was coming we both physically jumped because of the noise!

I'm not sure I could cope with it in the long term, but it does sound good!

It also set off car alarms in car parks

The only downside I can see is that it get a tad droney at 90mph over a period of time - but hey, that's why you put a CD on for a couple of minutes!

I have just put the cats back on mine (sports exhaust) just too loud and the fuel consumption dropped considerably , although this could have been because of the noise

I have sportz exhaust and have just removed cats as they fell apart. I kept the old cat housing and welded in a perforated tube with some stainless wadding to give a 'little' silencing, sounds great and I can still hear the CD except when really caning it or throttling back.

Went from standard (nice), to ACT sports back (very good) to decat pipes (grin inducing but perhaps OTT).

I noticed a tiny bit of extra pick-up after the decat pipes were fitted, but that could well have been imagined.

So far I've not noticed that fuel consumption is any worse, although you have to make an allowance for throttle blipping when stuck in traffic, through stone-walled villages etc.

If fuel consumption was lower, I'd imagine remapping to match the revised characteristics of airflow etc. would probably sort the problem out.

Will see how I cope with the noise with the 800+ miles to Le Mans and back next, as over 4000 revs it does start to grate a little, then maybe refit the cats.

BTW I'm told some friendly MOT stations will be a little more helpful when it comes to test time...

Im still swaying towards decat and sports pipe..... as I said, my Grif was loud, louder than my mates Grif's so I reckon the sports pipe do the car justice.....

During the Snetterton Track day 1 of my sports pipes 'failed'. I found an original back box for sale on P/Heads which I have fitted. The Cerb sound very refined now! I would suggest that with sports pipes fitted the dBa level increases by 5-10% & the Pops & Bangs by 20-25%. IMHO its a 'must have' upgrade. Havng heard a Decatted & Sports Pipe fitted Cerb the sound is higher pitched still. Not something I would go for - but each to their own.

I found sports pipes & de-cat was just a bit much, tried it for a month, but i thought it got a bit max-power. Also it was hopeless for track days, even with bolt-on silencers!!!

Have gone back to std back box & de-cat, a happy compromise & STILL VERY LOUD

I currently have standard box and decat.... It is loud and pops and bangs like mad, and spits flames!!

But I think I want more,

Just waiting now for my sports pipes. Ordered new centre pipes too from TMS cos mine are rusted to my back box.
Should get them today!

Is a decat / sports pipe Cerbera really any louder than any other sports car out there, or TVR, using a Grif for example, which always used to turn heads a couple of hundred yards down the road? (unlike the Cerb in standard guise, also there is a Tuscan my may, and I never notice it until its past me when Im walking down the street!!)

Any louder than a sports piped bike? Im trying to gauge as Im going to make the decision on decat with either sports tails or std back box today, to be sure its all at the garage for Fri/Sat.

I'd say it's on a par with my Ducati with open race pipes. After a 2hr ride I can't hear properly for quite some time afterwards.

Obviously the Cerb won't be that bad from inside due to the sound deadening.
