Well the Cerb' went to Austec today and despite a long and trying day for Paul, Tim, Mark and the rest of the Austec team, some real magic happened. I won't go into details, as some sleep would be nice, but suffice to say we moved from a poorly 276bhp at the wheels to a rather perky 357.

To talk only of peak numbers, also misses another dramatic before and after difference. The power delivery now is sooooo smooth and wonderfully linear thanks to a combination of Mark and Paul's mapping wizardry, Bosch injectors and Tim's new Cerbera induction system. I'll post the dyno charts tomorrow evening so you can see for yourselves.

Night all,

Steve.

That's a great figure, beats my best by over 30bhp (induction kit, ported inlets, ported heads).

Is this the first production version of the kit then Steve .. what does it look like? pics? How much is it? What's the bonnet clearance like?

thanks in advance, Joo.

I benefitted a bit from Tim's mis-fortune here. He would have had his prototype kit on his Cerb this Wednesday, to measure the effects, but the head gasket went. He offered me the chance to try it on my car instead - so just lucky timing on my part. I'm not sure when Tim will release the production kit, so I'll for him to comment on, but the quality of the prototype is excellent.

Without wanting to fuel the power debate too much, she's not quite 400bhp, since the transmission loses came out very low yesterday. I know the estimation of flywheel figures is a point of contention for many, so I have only looked at the differences in at the wheel figures. She had a misfire when first on the rolling-road, which explains the low numbers initially, but the mapping, injectors and induction kit certainly make one potent cocktail!

Steve that is an awesome performance - congrats to all involved.

I went out in Steve's car the night before and the performance felt nothing special. This seems to be born out by the original bhp figure..

We were measuring how loud his car was before the mods.

The car was an unmodded 4.5 Cerb.

In car values (all approx) :

Tickover : 70db
60mph (5th): 84 db
70mph (5th) 86 db
90 (5th) 88 db

Max Acceleration : 94 db

External check (1/2 meter, 45 degrees to exhaust)
4500 rpm : 99.6 db
5250 rpm : 102.6 db

(above is 75% of 6000 & 7000 rpm respecively)
- which ever you can convince a track inspector is
the red line..

Steve is also due to have a sports exhaust fitted soon
- so hopefully we can get some figures of just the
ACT inlet mods first.. and another reading after the sports pipes.

Steve you must be a happy man

Just a little bit pleased with the results

I'll take you out for a little run from the Fairmile on Saturday Alan, then you can witness the difference yourself (it's fg awesome!).

I would say it is a genuine 400bhp car on the basis of powerful RWD losses generally being 15 bhp + 10% of the total, this makes yours around 410-415 bhp.

Glad you're happy Steve, nice when it goes like that. the induction kit supprised us all, as we had expected a slight loss of torque very low down but we only saw gains !! with a healthy increase between 3000-5000, just where you need it, and the icing on the cake was 32bhp peak at the wheels, these kits are only any good in the hands of the experts as the fuel requirements are very different once fitted, aside from the power figures it was interesting that the car is soo much smoother at low rpm.
I'll say it again, without the tuning experts my stuff would be erelevant.

I hope this doesn't turn into a pointless debate about BHP, but just nice to see a car (with nice owners) go into the 400ish category, if only it could have been me i'll have to cheer me self up by having the only Red set pipes ever available

One thing is clear to me, most Cerberas are running lets say less than optimum mapping as standard, the increases i have seen whilst on the dyno are astounding.

Congratualations to all concerned , me I have no doubts about the combined abilities of those invloved to deliver the goods .
As you say, I have always prefered wheel figures as the best indicator. Without wishing to open that paricular can of worms when you apply a not too unreasonable 16% loses it pretty much what TVR claim for the car .
This has strengthened my resolve to get me one of cerbie things before the years out .
Sorry to hear your head gaskets gone Tim, hopefully not too painful on the reserves .

That's OK Tim, you know far more than me about engines and power outputs

Looks like I may have a buyer for my UK house so a car as a toy is looking likely this year. Current plan is for an F348 for the summer, a 911 for the winter and then a 450SE/SEAC for keeps.

Good man, you won't regret it although your wallet might, no just kidding , go for it although if Tim sits in the back he'll probably need to one foot out of each window , My daughter is 8 and is complaining about lack of legroom.

I'm not too bothered about the head gasket as i wanted to inspect the engine anyway.

Nick, i didn't pat your car but did leave my car there to keep it company, do you think they will get on mines green
