Broken clutch, gutted......
Discussion
Had the car serviced yesterday, including a new back box and decat pipes. Cost a little bit of cash.....
Car was going like a dream yesterday. Just been out driving for a couple of hours, but, at times the clutch biting point seemed to be all over the place, sometimes only had to slightly lift clutch of floor for it to engage/bite. Other times, 1/2 - 2/3 up from the full movement of the clutch pedal.
Stalled at some lights when it was really low, kept foot on clutch and as starting, car was jumping forward. Once going was ok'ish right until I reached my driveway.
Car stalled in first again, and clutch pedal just went entirely flat. Now no pressure. Goes flat to the floor and but no clutch, almost like having a snapped clutch cable like on my old Renault 5 Turbo all those years ago!!
Is this a small/slave/master cylinder issue?
What sort of cost is a repair?
Looks like a low loader to APM in the next week or so, whatever it is.

Slave master/slave cylinders...tell tale signs (not sure which way round mind!)...clutch fluid under car directly beneath gearbox bellhousing area...and clutch fluid in the drivers footwell, and I understand this could drip from clutch pedal, but should be noticable on carpet...if not, sounds like the dreaded snapped finger syndrome!

Thanks for the info.
Wouldnt have noticed any fluid outside the car, due to shingle driveway.
Certainly didnt notice any inside or on pedal, and I had a good look at that.
Does that rule out cylinder issue?
Snapped finger, hmmm, new clutch I take it, that means? Not good, circa £1200 to get fixed right?
That £3k per annum is fast approaching after just 250 miles...... oh well, I knew what I was getting myself into with another TVR.

£600 for a clutch kit alone is pricey.
Is it an engine out job, or just labour intensive job?
Don't jump the gun! If the clutch position moved I'd guess it was an issue with one of the clutch cylinders.
Get your head in the footwell and see if the carpet is at all wet. The cylinders aren't overly expensive to reseal/replace.

The clutch can be done by a good mechanic or you could do it yourself, if it is the slave cylinder make sure they replace all of the seals in the seal kit as in my experiance with mine the two main piston seals (like square o rings) had obviousely been changed and the o rings on the cylinder barrel and back plate had been neglected and the one on the barrel had gone like a marshmallow and just disintegrated while the main seals were like brand new!!??
When i changed my seals like a complete idiot i assumed that as they looked like new whats the point of changing the other o rings, needless to say after the second removal of the gearbox i soon realised whoever changed them before probebley had the same idea...... DOH!!
Anyway if i havnt bored you enough already..... the clutch can be done by yourself if you are handy with some spanners but its a long winded job just to get to the clutch (approx 3 hours) but can be done in a day easily if you dont have any problems along the way.
