Any suggestions how to freshen the fibreglass/foil heat shield

I have tried to patch with metallic tape but that doesn't last at all

I used a closed cell aluminium sheet that works really well and doesnt break down over time. I'll see if I can find the stuff I used.

I ripped all the old crap off and replaced like for like. To be fair it wasn’t that bad for 20 years old. I degreased the ali and stuck the new stuff on with a combination of silicone adhesive and ali foil tape. Jobs a good un.

Thanks Peter, looks great

Think I'm more likely to follow Ian's advice, although I'll probably do a half hearted job as I'm in a bit of a hurry

Turned out better than I expected

I bought a 1000mm x 500mm sheet which was enough to wrap the front around the end of the heat shield riveting through both layers

The front wrap was important because that is where the original started to separate aided by airflow

I left the original heat shield in place, and could have done with deeper rivets as a result, but they just about worked

Just done mine!

Some cheapo ally from car builder solutions - just over a tenner..

Riveted it on, hammered the edges down, hacksawed the excess off.. a couple of minutes with a file and hey presto, should last forever!
