Hello all,

This has been discussed at length I know but searching the archives I can't find a recent definitive answer. Not that there can be one but I thought I would ask as I need two new rears, and probably fronts too.... Mainly London driving, the rare track day and not silly money. Start the debate....

Currently I have Dunlop SP Sport Maxx on from about 5 years ago.

Cheers

Depends on wheel size.

If you have 17"s choice is quite restricted.

I'm back on the original 16" wheels, found the PO has put spiders on which rubbed the arches. Much more choice, and cheaper on 16s, current ones are 225 50 16s

If you want that track capability (yes, I do remember you at Hethel), then might I suggest Yokohama AD08R?
They are a very good road/track tyre, Matt Poxon has them on his Griff and loves them, and unlike Toyo R888Rs, they come with a full 8mm of tread depth.
They do come in 225/50 16 92V, you can find them on Ebay, so the main tyre places should be able to get them.
But you are looking at around £500 plus fitting for a set of four.
Which of course is what you pay for a months parking in central London. getmecoat

Last time I bought a set of tyres for my daily driver, I got the best price I could off Ebay and used it to get an even better price fitted locally at Formula One Autocentres. Point is, tyre prices are negotiable - there is a huge amount of margin in wholesale pricing.

+1 for the Yokohamas, Based on a survey of the paddock at sprints i fitted the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R a couple of years ago to replace the Toyo R1Rs which were no longer available.

Mine were doing that at the front a bit. Owners often buy Tuscan spiders for their Cerbera but fail to realise the tyres are too big (235/40 x 18 on the front). Clearance is fine with 225/35 x 18. TVR themselves used 235/35 x 18 when fitting them to the later Cerberas.

I love the Yokohamas

I've been using AD08 and now AD08R on the Cerb for about six years

There was a time just after the Japanese earthquake that you couldn't get certain sizes including 235/40/17

Apparently this was due to one of the moulds being damaged by the quake

I also put them on my other car as soon as I managed to find suitable 17" wheels

You do have to warm them up properly though

Interesting thread for me as I'm looking at replacing the GY F1 on my 18" Spiders and like the idea of the Yoko AD08R.....how are they for general road/fast road use?
Progressive breakaway in the wet?

I've had to drive through torrential rain on the E40 several times with the AD08, and I've never had any aquaplaning

Admittedly I do change them before they reach the wear bars, but I have been very pleasantly surprised by their performance in standing water
