Cerbera 4.2 Exhaust Manifold

Hi PH'ers hope your all enjoying your Blackpool rockets!!

I have a 98 Cerbera 4.2 which appears to have a hairline crack on the driver side exhaust manifold. Any ideas on whether this can be welded or does it need to be replaced? If so how much roughly would it cost to get my baby back to being perfect again!!!

It can be done but depends of the unit needs to be removed. Can you see the crack?

Hi it is in the middle of the manifold, you can see it when you remove the throttle cover on the driver side bank.. Have you ever had the same problem?

No sorry but if you can see it it should be easy to weld.

Welding tends to be only a temporary measure. I can't imagine you can weld it in place either.

Pretty sure Joolz welds in place .

Although I agree with welding only being temporary.

Yep, pretty sure it can be welded in place so long as you can get to it.

Problem as explained to me was that there is so much heat and stress on the metal that they tend to crack. So... you weld them up but it's temporary as the heat and stress will crack them again. So... you put new ones on but that doesn't really help as the same problems will happen again...... Ever decreasing circles so to speak. Aftermarket manifolds are in the pipeline I'm told but not in the near future.

Had the manifolds welded on the Chimaera, I don't see why the Cerb is any different. Cost will be a few hours of labour.

I had a number of cracks on my Cerb's manifolds welded. Must be at least a year ago, and they all seem to be holding fine.

Just got a used pair from Douglas Valley. £350 for the pair instead of £330 each new. Had them fitted by Dan and Simon at Leven. Pig of a job I'm told but it's made such a difference to my Cerbie.
Didn't realise how badly it was running until they had been replaced. Leven had all the weak spots (all of it then!) welded on the replacement manifolds so fingers crossed they'll last a while

I will look at welding it temporarily and see if i can pick up a set from douglas valley at some point. I will let you all know how the welding goes!! Thankyou PH'ers!!

personally I would fit new ones. You gotta pay all that labour with the risk of it needing redoing shortly thereafter. A false economy. Possibly.

Had both my manifolds go so had a new set fitted but had them ceramic coated inside and out, this cuts the heat back and helps prevent cracking works realy well car seems to run between 10 - 15 c less, got the coating done from
