i expect to hear from her solicitors anytime now.

keep you posted matey......... ooo wait what was that noise?

so, you lot obviously know I'm usually a shy and retiring individual with hardly anything to say for himself? well, this morning I'm gonna allow myself an unprecedented outburst of opinion. ready? here goes:

Tim Lamont is a genius.

you simply cannot believe how much difference the exhaust has made to my car!! it sounds more awesome than anything i have ever heard, simply perfect. but I'm getting ahead of myself. lets set the scene.

exhausts arrive. they look lovely. i spend three hours with them on the front room floor, just looking at them. and with them looking at me, brimming with malevolence. the workmanship is brilliant and they're oooo so shiney.

BUT I'm sceptical about fitting them cos my original back box is already fecking loud cos Ive removed all the wadding. in my head, there can be virtually no difference in sound. in fact if anything, i figure the sound can only go down cos the new pipes have silencing and my box effectively doesn't. i continue to stare at them. they continue to stare at me. at one point I'm convinced one of them winks at me.

4.07. the dam bursts.

i run outside, and crawl under the car to 'assess' the job (ie get started, but still not allow myself to believe I'm doing this). Tell myself, "ill put them on, but i wont like them", and frankly, right now, i don't have any money to 'waste' on such frivolities. And then by trying them, not liking them, and sending them back to the genius that is Lamont who agreed to let me have them on sale or return if i don't like them, Ive effectively SAVED myself the money. you see what i did there right? does anyone else put themselves through backward accounting to allow them to justify fun purchases? no? just me then obviously.

anyhooo, one hour later, they're on. they are a segment of urine to fit. and look great. but Ive spent an hour willing myself not to like them. "you cant afford them nerve" i mutter to myself, already knowing that the shininess already had me at hello. ready?

start the car.

i am buying them.

oh. my. god. even just at idle they sound amazing, totally different than before. the sound has gone from a 'sound' to a 'note'. much more bassy and sporty, just right for the car. not silly boy racer loud or sounding. perfectly matched to the car. perfectly.I'm sold. more than you can possibly imagine. "i wont like it when i rev it" i mutter to myself, through a 4 mile wide grin "it'll have been a waste of time and i cant afford it".

rev the engine.

small trees are uprooted and blown over. inadvertently laugh so hard that, ashamedly, i wee a little bit. it just sounds awesome, puts me in mind of a 360 CS on full chat (yes, i know thats a different 'man-size' engine, but thats what the note reminds me of). this is perfect. know in this instant two things. 1) I'm not selling my cerb 2) i love Tim Lamont and want to have his babies.

try and fit grin into the car, and go for a drive. oh god, this is unbelievable, its like a different car. sounds perfect, the pops and bangs on the overrun are cleaner and sound like fireworks (there were quite a few before, but again the sound has totally changed) and the note as you accelerate, especially when you get to 5000+ revs is simply unbelievable. not droney or noisey like some 'loud' exhausts, just tuneful, full on and perfectly matched to a sports car like this one. my one. the one I'm now proudly keeping. thank you Tim.

so in conclusion, i have three pieces of advice.

1) don't waste three hours of clement weather, and then go and fit an exhaust in a storm, cos you'll end up with very wet legs.

2) go. now. look everywhere. look down the back of the sofa. empty out old jeans. steal the money if you have to. but buy a pair of these from Tim. and buy them now. Ive honestly, honestly never been happier i spent money.

3) see 2).

thanks again Tim, you've made my year

i may be gone some time now gang, I'm going to stand in my driveway with a long stick poking my accelerator pedal so i can hear what i sound like when i drive by

One of those things is fantastic news, my wife is packing my bags though.

Once again Nervy cheers for making us laugh very hard, that includes a few friends that came for tea, you're now even more famous.

Congrats Nervous! Delighted to hear it worked out so well for you. I'm about to find out what it sounds like with eight cylinders this week.

Yes, since the exhaust is off my Cerb while DB sorts the out clutch, I felt it'd be rude not fit some sports pipes. On the basis of the below, I'm duty bound to do a lap of honour of Petworth when I pick her up.

Can't wait

Steve.

I am going to wear ear plugs for the drive to Le MAns! The exhaust really does make me go slightly deaf after a hoon.
