Clutch guidance

Afternoon Good People,
It's time for a new clutch, the one coming out is an ap racing which looking at the paperwork that came withe car was a reconditioned one installed the begining of 2008 at 19,000 miles, I'm now at 54,000 so not bad going I think. TVR Parts have three, AP Racing, Exclusive replacement clutch and a Helix Autosport. Would anyone like to suggest a prefrence out of the three or is there not much between the threm.

Is AP available again?
Helix - see forums - you could see if people with more recent experience (past year) are happy with the product.
My chosen option was a rebuild from CG Motorsport in Leeds - aka The Clutch Specialist http://www.clutch-specialists.co.uk
A speedy and good service, and they will talk you through options on the clutch plate materials on offer.

I fitted one of the first batch of Helix and it's been absolutely fine. Having come from an AP clutch I felt no real difference in weigh etc given the helix is supposed to be slightly lighter.

The one thing I liked about the helix is that parts are available to rebuild. you can of course have the AP unit relined again but depends on the condition of the springs.

I agree with Robert.

I have had mixed life from the AP units ranging fron 6k miles to the current one which has done 30k, that does not inspire confidence in their QA processes,

I currently have sat in my garage a refurbed unit from Leeds with Kevlar friction material, being fitted next week.

Plenty of Helix being fitted with no issues now. It was a bad batch 2yrs ago that muddied their name.

2 AP clutches in 102K
I'm pleased with that.

At the time I replaced, Colin (I think it was) did not quote any special defining name when I said it was for a Cerbera.

I have a Helix, it's much lighter than my original.
The only issue was they made a set slightly too thick so the clutch wouldn't disengage.

If you fit the Helix, don't have the clutch refaced unless the machine shop is aware they need to retain the tiny step around the edge of the friction surface. If you grind them flat, the clutch doesn't disengage properly. Looks like 2/10ths of fk all, but it makes a difference.
