Reckless new boy gonna need help....
Discussion
hi all,
Can't believe I did this but I've just swapped my mint BMW 330d for a '97 4.2 70k.fsh.
Bought it knowing it's gonna kill me but F*** it.
Need advice on...over heating. It's running at 100 at moment and I wouldn't like to get stuck in a jam with it like that. Flush, thermo, fans or new radiator?
Can anyone fit brakes and pads? Not me but a mechanic?
Apart from that I'm smitten! Did intend to get rid for a skyline soon as but at the moment I just sit gawpnig at the thing....how sad is that?
I'm manchester based and am close to TVR and two of its dealers. can anyone tell me why they charge more than the factory for servicing?
Anyway, you guys and gals seem to know what you're talking about so hope to hear your pearls of wisdom on how to keep that thing running.
this will not be a pampered plaything its my transport to and from work etc
Is there a 70k service?
Are they hard to work on?
Failing that, come and take the P....
Thanks

70k, wow, there's been a few biggish mileage cerbs around but yours is up there with some of them.
Overheating. Most likely it's not overheating. Do your fans come on? If they do, what temp do they come on at. The gauge in the car can be a few degrees off, mine was about 12 off. It's because the pipe for the gauge gets tie wrapped to the water rail under the airbox. Relocate this pipe and you will see the temperatures reading much more accurately.
If the fans aren't coming on then yes, it will be overheating. Common problems are the ECU temp sender (10 quid) or the thermostat sometimes.
Brakes and pads. I guess you mean discs. I done mine a few months back. Not a big job, took a day or so in between cups of tea and swearing.
No idea about dealer pricing, I tend to use indies for work but my local has just shut up shop to try pastures new as they say.
Oh and hello!!!
