If its as simple as changing the engine would you not do it before selling and sell it for more, I know I would.

Split crank was common on early cars I believe, so sounds genuine.

Car looks straight enough, you can HPI the reg, the only flaky bit is the condition of the 'new' engine.

my 96 cerb did the same crank split in half and cost in excess of £13000 to put right had to have complete new engine and bell housing plus clutch and assembly due to fly smashing it up when the crank let go. so might worth asking the condition of the clutch etc.

Interesting...saw this the other day and pondered a bid.
If you factor-in getting the replacement engine stripped, checked and rebuilt + the potential clutch/bell housing replacement + labour then I think its already top dollar for a 96 4.2.
If you were to do all the work yourself it may be worth while, but how many people are happy to DIY a AJP.
Interesting to see what it goes for in the end.

I must off spent nearly that on parts alone in the 19 months of ownership. Not really something to buy for breaking though is it

I'd go for it if I had a nice big garage. I would put in my GT's engine and getrag box. And end up with a twin turbo 500hp+ daily driver, although the GT engine bay is jampacked, I doubt all of the gear would fit in the cerbs bay, hmmmmm...... and probably put the AJP into the GT, lol, that would sell well, a V8 3000GT 4WD beast lol
