overheating

My 4.2 cerbera has been overheating recently, am looking for tips as to usual causes and possible fixes, can anyone help?? Could it be the fan not kicking in?

Could be a number of things. Have you check your water level? Also its easy to tell if your fans are cutting in. The first one should cut in at about 92 degrees with the second @ 97 degrees.

What temp did you get up to?

Hi. The water was very low by the time i was forced to stop. i let the car cool, filled the water and finished my journey. by the end of the journey (quite long but mostly at motorway speed) the water was low again.
Temp went off the scale, above 110!!
I guess first thing would be for me to drive about until the temp is above 92 and see if the fan has kicked in??

Park it up and let it idle with the bonnet up, you can then see the fans!

Don't worry too much about what temp they kick in (within reason!) as the gauges vary immensely.

I think my first worry would be where the water was going.....

hopefully externally.
