I know this has been discussed before but has anyone recently bought an older Cerbera?
If so what did you give the insurance company as proof of cat 1 system installation, it seems the only documentation available is this standard letter from the TVR service department
which reads:-

"'Please take this letter as confirmation that every TVR Cerbera manufactured between January 1996 and August 1999 is fitted with the Meta M99T alarm system.

This alarm comprises of two units linked together; the M99T alarm unit with battery backed siren and the M36T immobliiser.
The M99T alarm system is a thatcham approved article if used with the M36T immobiliser, boot and bonnet pin switches. Unfortunately, the boot and bonnet pin switches are, at present, not fitted on the TVR Cerbera.

The M36T immobliser is a stand alone unit, has a thatcham category 2 approval, approval number TE1 1099/0895."

Did you your company accept this letter? Im not sure what to do now, is there any other way round this problem?

Yes, but then the only one I used who asked me though was Mannings.

I guess the one you are in contact with haven't?

deep doo doo. The insurance company will need a letter specifying your car number plate. They will not accept a "all TVR's" letter as NO TVR is thatcham approved because TVR isn't thatcham approved to fit it.

If you ring thatcham for their list it will not include TVR as a make with an approved system and will argue the point above.

So stupidly your only recourse is to find an insurance company that accepts this and will still give you the discount or get a letter on TVR headed notepaper from your LOCAL TVR dealer saying your car numberplate xxx xxx has an approved system fitted (as if they had fitted it aftermarket) and see if your insurance company will buy it.

You can also get local alarm specialists to check it and confirm it is a Cat 1 system - my car came with this. Depends how pedantic your insurers are...

The alarm and immobiliser could be cat1 if they were fitted by an approved fitter and had boot/bonnet sensors.
The cerbera (at least) doesn't have the bonnet sensor and probably boot sensor but didn't bother checking that. This would mean it's unlikely to be accepted by an insurer as cat1.
I ended up biting the bullet and letting it be put down as cat2 plus alarm. It wasn't a huge hike in premium but just annoying.

As an alternative to messing around to keep the insuarance company happy try one that is easier to deal with. I use classicline insurance. They are very competitive especially for limited mileage policies and they only asked if my car had a factory fitted immobiliser not whether it was Thatcham cat 1.

Classicline are on 01455-639000

When your getting a quote on line at norwich union, try the various options, it's quite interesting to see how much your quote changes.

A tracker saves you about a fiver, cat 1 alarm about two quid & parking on a drive as opposed to the street is another tenner.

Now if you can get a drive built and a new alarm fitted for less than £17, your quids in

We've got some travellers around the corner who can lay 1mm of tarmac at a reasonable rate, but even they'll struggle to save me anything on my quote
