fuel line/pipe

Hello all. A black rubber hose(with a bit of silver stuff for the first foot) comes out by the battery on the left of a cerb, and then travels down to the metal fuel split at the front by the washer bottle.
Does any body know the correct route for this pipe between these two points? I'm sure that a spark jumped across and hacked a slash/hole in mine the other day - now I've got petrol spraying out!!!
When I took a closer look mine was running round the back of the spark plugs by the copper coil - is this right????
