This is on General Gassing under "Define Fast Car":
Sorry this post is far to long to be reading at this time of night - but to answer what is a really simple question i'd say something like a 911 turbo or (personally) a cerbra 4.5 red rose
anyone disagree
Yes, a cerbera is fast enough in a straight line but nothing more, it'd be left for dead round a track by many cars.
I maintain a good measurement of how fast a car is would be a lap time.
Cerberas are crap at cornering from what I have seen, I've never driven one on a track however I've seen enough wallowing about at trackdays to see they aren't cut out for going quickly in anything other than a straight line, I overtook a 4.2 round Donington in my Accord TypeR FFS, never mind the Noble. There is a classic video of Noble passing a Cerbera at brands as it is almost touching it's wing mirrors on the ground, as he passes the Noble driver says "he should get a chassis to match that engine" maybe Nitrons sort them out but they never seem happy, unless I've just come accross crap drivers.

He should get to more sprints/hillclimbs
Some of the faster Cerby boys give a fair few cars a fright that should out corner it with ease.
Compared to a Noble however... the Cerb would get laughed at. Then again, the Noble runs stickier tyres, so perhaps a fair comparison would be a Cerb with Toyo R888's??
Wonder if we can get Jes Firth (talented sprinter and owner of an R888's shod 4.2 to go against him at a sprint?)
Have to admit though, the Noble is one of the most impressive handling cars I have ever had the privelege of passengering.

Which proves what exactly?
Track days are not races - they're for people to do whatever they enjoy and feel comfortable doing.
I can think of plenty of reasons why I might be going around a track slower than someone else and none of them make my car's capabilities inferior to his, or his dick bigger than mine.
Hi guys, Feel free to check out the whole thread rather than Brucies little snippets.
Brucie, stop stirring, you are quite a pathetic little man.
To the guy that mentioned tyres - only the M400 runs Pirelli Corsas, the rest run Bridgestone SO3's.
As for the sprints - I'm doing one on the 10th July with Seloc, feel free to come along, I'll be in my BMW (cue Brucie banging on about strut suspension) and the TVR would be in my class, I'd be impressed to see one being used in anger, I've already said that "maybe Nitrons sort them out" and also said the it may simply be down to driver ability. I'm sure all these sprint cars are not running in standard form, in fact I'd love to see the difference modifying the suspension could make.
Perhaps Bruce could bring along his XJR, with it's double wishbone suspension he'd no doubt beat my times and enjoy a nicer ride while he was at it.

Nathan, have you done any other sprints that you have your times for? Then we can compare them to the TVRCC lot. Most sprinters Cerberas have suspension work only (dampers/springs)so they can still run in the standard classes. Its very interesting to see some of the sprinting Cerberas - some of the owners can *really* drive the wheels off of the things!!
I dont think we can make that sprint in our Cerb (Dads getting better at this sprinting lark all the time, but not the best to make comparisons with) but we are at a fair few of the Midland Speed Championship events.

I've only ever done sprints at North Weald and even then, the surface there is so rubbish and the weather always so bad (does it have it's own microclimate?) that times cannot be compared between 2 days (that and the fact they always seem to move the cones slightly).
The last one I did there:
http://forums.seloc.org/docs/Sprint_Championship_2005_points20050213.pdf
My time is in class D - it would've put me second in every class but still no where near the capibility of the Noble, Andrew Walsh took my car for 2 practice runs and took 3.1 seconds off me in it!
They are a really frienly bunch and there are some *great* drivers there. The Michael Caine in class C is the TVR le mans driver!

I race a Cerb in the TVR Speed Championship and there is very little between the top Porsches and the Cerbs in terms of times, there was 0.1 sec between myself and a GT3RS at Lydden (driven by a very experienced sprinter.
On most occasions Jes Firth is the fastest real road going vehicle in his Green 4.2.
Nitrons, set-up and tyres are the answer, oh! and ability!

If you're looking at lap times on a race track I don't see how a Noble which generates some downforce could be beaten by a Cerb which generates lift virtually as soon as it moves. Nitrons will improve a cerb greatly round corners, but compared to a Noble errrrrr let's put it this way, I think that's what I'd like next on my drive but only for the reasons of it's on-track capability.
The Cerb is good on track, carries 4 people and their luggage (e.g. to LM2005), looks fab even 10 years on and makes a great noise (AJP8). As an all-rounder it's difficult to beat, on track it is much easier to do so.
