Oil temp gauge

The gauge takes a while to register any temperature and then "jumps" to the proper temperature rather than moving slowly.

Is this normal? All other indicators are fine

Mine moves slowly upto 90! Appears your needle is being held until shaken free to register the correct temp?? Perhaps!

Don't you mean water temperature, or have you had an oil temp guage fitted?

Mine [water temp] is a reasonably linear increase in temperature, although it does take a couple of minutes to move off the bottom of the guage.

Yes - it does seem to be held until the pressure on the needle is enough to make it jump.

probably due to lack of use...before I bought the car it had covered 3200 miles (2001 4.5 cerb)

Mine is fairly steady up to about 70 then has a little blip/jump to 80.

They're all/mostly capillary guages (WTF that means Im not quite sure) so I believe 'they all do that sir'
