Well after four days of Cerbera ownership thing are not so rosy. Twice now it has refused to start, just a click from the solenoid or a relay from under the bonnet.

First time it had to be recovered and then bloody started the next day and then did the same thing again only to start an hour later. Any ideas? After 4.5K trouble free miles in my Tuscan, this does not bode well.

Tonight there was a strong smell of electrical burning and the driver’s window closed itself. This seems to have cleared but is worrying.

I notice in the invoices that the car has just had all the rocker arms replaced by the dealer, is this expected on an engine that has covered 2.K? (2003 4.5)Along with the rear upper wishbone bushes, throttle cable, clutch master cylinder and pipes, and had both lambda sensors replaced 2.3K

I really love this car and consider it to be superior to my Tuscan in virtually every way, although we do very little mileage, it is all on B roads, and often some miles from towns and I we need to trust it. Thoughts/ Advice

Sounds like the battery or alternator are knakered. Wouldn't worry about the window thing to much my car has done that when the charge is really low. Bite the bullet get the alternator checked at a local garage. My car had a few niggles such as this but it's true to say they need driving, too much standing about results in issues like this.

Good luck

I would go along with s,one as a starter. If the battery is low, then the windows will be all over the place.

If you change the battery, you might have to reset the switching unit for the windows.(Above the tank in the boot. Unplug, wait for a minute or so, and reconnect.

This was my thought, but battery is full charges, checked with an accurate meter, also stuck it on the leven trickle charger last night.

Starter motor? Some cerberas can get through a few starter motors. I think Jes Tatlow's had about 5

Well took her out for a run yesterday with no starting/electrical problems at all, included half a dozen hot starts so maybe it was just having a tantrum!

Its a real joy to have that "chunky" wave of torque that I have missed since the Griff went, regardless of what the figures say it is considerably "real world" quicker than the Tuscan S, over a (private of course)1/4 mile ish piece of road which has a steep incline, Just me in the car, the Cerb was on par with the Tuscan S over 3/4s of the distance but then left it for dead, I had to back off before the end of the run with 30mph (GPS) over the Tuscan s. What a car!

I have noticed that it grounds out rather frequently, with my nine year old in the back at 40mph + it seems to catch the rear of the exhaust just on road undulations and gradient changes are a real problem, had to get everyone out of the car to tackle a steep hill off the high street. Car does look very low, I can’t get my fingers under the arches without curling them, is the ride height adjustable? What sould it be as standard?

On gradients it seems to catch the cat protection plate nuts rather than the gearbox so I hope this isn’t too serious. Would a sports tail pipe help with the on road grounding, I assume they do away with the rear silencer?

Your car has height adjustment on the rear but you will find if you put adjustable shochers on that will help you. From hundred quid per corner.

What was the record for how many times the Tuscan let you down in a four day period then?

Grass always greener.....?

My point is, it might be quicker when it's going, but what good is that when it's sitting on your driveway with a u/s starter (again!)?

Slightly moot point anyway as my Tusc let me down today after three whole months of trouble free hooning!

Oh, and as for your last point, use a bigger hammer....he'll fit!

Well fingers crossed it hasnt done it again. I suspect tis because it has been sitting sulking in the show room, my Tuscan got used every day if only for short journys, I am convinced use is the key to reliability with TVRs.

Well I do have fingers crossed for you but if it is a starter motor problem it can be an intermittant fault.
We had two go in our Cerb....

One just died.....wouldn't start.. full stop..

The other played about with us for a couple of months.....sometimes fine...then would let us down when we least needed it......and then finally died....

Hope your problem is sorted...but if it is the starter motor..it's gonna need doing.......

Must agree with Nerv....cracking Cerb....

In answer to your question about sports pipes, yes they do indeed do away with the back box, so you have better clearance at the rear. I have to get up a very bumpy unmetalled lane to our house, and that helped enormously. To cap it off, I fitted Nitrons all round and then raised the ride height a little, so now it's pretty good.

Cool, what sports pipes did you go for? I see ACT do them but no pics on their site.

Ive got sports pipes and its been decatted and I havent yet (now watch me rip the exhaust off this week) had a scrape. That includes the large hill-like speed bumps in the local town square (well, you have to pose, dontcha?) and several ascents over the Himalayan-like speed bumps at the rugby club which were obviously designed to stop visiting teams's coaches from invading.

NB I dont have adjustable suspension...yet

Going to order a set from ACT at the end of the week. I followed my wife while she was driving the Cerb and I was supprised how much it "bobbed up and down at the rear going over minor undulations, wondering if the rear springs have sagged? Would this be expected after 2 years and 2.5k miles? would explain low ride hight. On a positive note, no more starter problems, might ask the dealer to change it anyway to give me a little more faith.

If the window went up while you are driving then check the alternator isn't overcharging. If the regulator is knackered overcharging can cause all sorts of electrical curiousities nevermind f***ing the battery.
Speaking of curiousity, what was wrong with the starter.

The starter has been fine since, will need to get it checked by the dealer no doubt. Wife was complaining of freeinz water dripping on her feet toady, is this a common fault, aircon leaking? Going to get some sports pipes sorted from ACT when the next batch comes in, should hep with the grounding out and improve the soundtrack
