AJP8 - unbelivable - nightmare
Discussion
I have unfortunately fallen foul of the AJP8 mega money syndrome. My number five cam cap has snapped/fractured/broken in half, the one at the end of the head nearest the fans. I am lead to believe that it cannot just be replaced with a new one - apparently I have to have a new cam shaft and five new caps and a rebore - is this right/correct?
Are all AJP8's not identical? Surely they can't be all completely different?
Do TVR do life time guarantees on any parts such as cam caps? My car is now going to be out of action for a while and I'm well P****d off!!!
Am seriously thinking of getting rid now - are subaru engine parts interchangeable???
Any, I repeat ANY info much appreciated - its not that I don't trust the garage its just that I can't believe its going cost about £2500 to get this fixed, its only a bl***y cam cap for heavens sakes.
Regards

My cam caps + carriers were all worn to the point where the heads were a complete write-off. At least you only have this on one bank. I had to replace both heads. 2.5k is about right for a complete head change for one bank. USING ALL NEW PARTS.
Peninsula said to me (and TVR POWER agreed on seeing them) they could not be re-furbished. I suspect you are bieng quoted a new head?
Unfortunately I had this happen just as N.S purchased TVR and manufacturing stopped for a while. For me it took TVR Power/Peninsula 3.5 months to rebuild and get working again..... bearing in mind I had some cheeky upgrades at the same time which needed TVR Engineering to MOD a new ECU chip....
just to complicate things.
Best of luck getting it back on the road.... Whilst this is getting sorted, take a chance to look at the chasssis rails close to the exhaust headers/heat matting round the back of the engine.
If you have the chance/cash, get the exhaust headers ceramic coated (cam-u-coat) as this will require engine out if you want to do it later and can cost a considerably more than just sending the headers off whilst the engine is already out for other things....
Think of it as an opportuity. I know it's hard to sometimes but it's well worth looking to see what else needs doing so you don't get bitten later.
