Steering Column Removal ?
Discussion
I've got to change my master brake cylinder on a Cerbera Speed 6.
I know I've got to remove the seat and then the steering column to remove the peddle box.
Does anyone know the detailed procedure before I begin for removing the steering column?
Will post photo's of the complete process when I am finished.
Cheers

There used to be an unofficial Cerbera manual here : www.tvrfreak.com (under TVR), but the link is bringing up a blank page....
I've emailed Faisal to let him know....

Hi,
There isn't a seal kit.
I talked TVR who put me onto a dealer who'd just changed the master cylinder.
It took them 14 hrs to change to cylinder. Apparently the seat, steering column, some of dash and peddle box had to be removed. It's about £800 including parts!!!
I've spent near £3K this year on repairs and service so I am going to start doing some work myself on car.
It's a beautiful but expensive machine.
The TVR manual doesn't cover much on the brake system.
Cheers

I believe someones pulling your chain in order to extract money. To design a car such that a simple master cylinder takes 14 hours to replace is ridiculous.
BMW only charged four hours to replace the whole engine on my wifes car.
In half an hour you could have the speedo binnacle off and the drivers footwell in pieces. Steering column abuot another hour. And thats even if you needed to take them off.

Hi,
I've purchased the master cylinder (£91) and I'll start fitting it tonight.
The cylinder does appear to be a sealed unit, I don't think it's servicable. My car's a Cerbera Speed Six, so mybe it's got a different system to the V8's.
It's an interesting chance to check what I've been told by the dealers regarding fiiting times.
Cheers

Are you super duper sure that it is an unserviceable part. I've not personnaly had the master cylinder off on a Cerb, but I've never heard of a master cylinder that didn't come apart for servicing.
Hi,
It doesn't appear to have a way of removing the master cylinder. The front of the pistion isn't a hex nut, it's just a cylinder. This is the only point that might come apart.
However, I'll take some mole grips to the cylinder in the car to see if it does come apart.
PS I'll photograph the part tonight so you can all see.

Hi,
I've successfully changed the master cylinder. It can be done in around 9 hrs, however I ran into a problem reconnecting the clutch fluid line and couldn't get the thread to catch on the connector block in the foot well (It's easy when you know how) and I had some problems with air when bleeding the brakes (Again easy - the second half of the fluid reservoir hadn’t filled because the car was jacked up) so it added another 4hrs.
I don’t understand how H L Gorner took 14 hrs to change the brake master cylinder, they might have hit similar problems but they should know how to get around the problems especially bleeding the brakes.
Anyway, I photographed the process and will write it up, if anyone is interested I’ll post the article on the web.
Cheers
