hiya gang

just got Downfall back from the paint shop, he looks awesome, quite changed the look of the car and was ace shooting home in something not a polo for the first time in a month. it almost drowned out the voices in my head

however, just noticed the speedo is playing up, nothing for the first 20 mins then flickers of life then partial function then massively over-reading and then sort of trying but failing to do the job (story of my life). anyone think of anything obvious i could do/ check that may have been disturbed by having the light conversion done? or maybe its just a coincidence? either way, anyone know of anything i can do?

obviously, i don't care, but Mr Plod seems too. either way, my car looks fecking great :goesoutsidetostareatcaragain:

:editstoaddpicturesforgeneraldroolage:

any suggestions you have about how fast im ncurrently going would be appreciated good people. and feel free to tell me the car looks kickass too

The speedo on my Chim was doing that and the fix was moving the transducer thingy underneath. Very quick job but car needs to be up in the air. Hope that's all that's wrong with yours. Peter

The road speed sensor i think is located at the diff it might be that or a connection to ? but it's not really my thing.
Glad you've got it back Nervous, you must be chuffed mate, i can imagine how you feel

hiya deux

thanks mate, so am i looking for a wire type thing near the diff? will it be obvious? do you do house calls?

Ive heard talk of the rev needle going scatty when the legendary big fuse is on the way home, does it apply equally to the speedo anyone? ironically i know where the fuse lives on the big-boys engine but not on mine. might as well check it whilst having a mooch, so if anyone could let me know that'd be dandy

As it's for you nervy i've just spoken to a clever person, he suggests that it is probably the position of the speed sensor pick up (on the diff) you can apparently wind them in, i'm not familiar with these so can't really justify driving up to your place .

My speedo behaved like yours - tried adjusting the sensor (in and out) but didn't really do any good so replaced it and all is well. Easy diy job but fiddly. Sensor on mine was offside and to the rear of the diff. Replacement was about 50 squids or so from TMS melton mowbray who had them in stock. I set mine to about a 2 mm gap between the sensor and the cog it reads off of. Simple electrical connection. And yes much easier if car is up in the air rather then just on ramps.

You sure you just weren't driving erratically?

I find if I go fast then slow then fast the speedo is all over the place.

I hope this helps.

My speedo has done this several times to me (and thats no indication of my driving). A new sensor sorted it out both times

of course we want to see him (sorry for calling him a her, hard to tell the sex of a car from the front

gorgious colour by the way the new paint finish looks tops as do the lights

(you can see your number plate on the new piccies though - don't know if you're paranoid about that, know a lot of people on here don't like their plate appearing on the web)
