I think my old JVC unit is dying, but its 14 years old...

Any tried the new Pioneer sph-evo82dab unit with the separate screen. Looks like you have a 1.5m cable to mount the 8 inch screen either where you want, or onto the unit itself. That might get around the lip problem?

I've been looking at this recently too.

I think I'm going to go for a DEHX8700DAB CD head unit and bluetooth that to my phone and a 7 or 8 inch tablet.

This is what I have in my cerb. It's not a bad unit, always connects over Bluetooth to my iPhone. Siri and hands free calling work well. CDs play without skipping. The EQ controls are quite comprehensive inc a bass boost that works well. I use it mainly with a USB stick loaded with flac files. My main quibbles are that there is no pause button and that some of the buttons sometimes become intermittently unresponsive, but that is likely just my bad unit. Has some silly disco lights features which I never use. Good for the money.

Brilliant to hear that! I had considered the DEXH7800DAB too as it has terrific reviews (and it looks really good in those pics Gary) but the 8700 seems to have a better spec. Have either of you used with a tablet? I was thinking about the tablet for Waze / speed cam alert but am still thinking about location / fixing before I commit as I think I will swap it between cars. I will try android to start with as I have one kicking about so doesn’t matter if it gets nicked / damaged.

Apologies for hijacking your thread Dave!

Happy for the hijack - there's several options now that weren't around previously. The Pioneer looked good as it had the separate screen, or had different mount options to get around the 50mm overhang. I think Halfords sell the 6" version so I might go take a look.

Quite fancy a decent sized screen for Waze navigation as I've fitted a Pioneer double Din unit in the MX-5 that works really well. A sat nav on the already tiny tvr windscreen does cut down viewing, although having taking the JVC DAB unit apart last night and resoldered some dry joints it appears to be working again. I still fancy an update

I think this would work, getting around the 50mm lip. There's an installation video here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5AoeVklL64

They do a 6.2 inch screen version as well, the Pioneer SPH-EVO62DAB, with the 8" being the Pioneer SPH-EVO82DAB

Thanks smile

I'm planning to put the tablet / ipad on the ledge above the stereo but want it to be removable and without damaging visible bits of the dash. I've ordered a couple of long bendy windscreen mounts from Ebay as they look like they might work with some tweaking and if not will fabricate something. I think this will give more flexibility than a dedicated screen.

Has anyone else done this?

Not to everyone’s taste, but i have one of these in my Chimaera as I wanted it to look very OEM.

I am thinking of putting a Pioneer SBH-20DAB in my Tamora.

Would be interested if any others have experience of this or the SBH-10?

I don't think it would cope with the lip problem of the Cerb - so apologies for any hijacking of your post!

I looked at the Pioneer SBH-20DAB and found a report from someone who used one in a Chim and was keen on it. I think it was the earlier non DAB model though.

Wouldn't work in a Cerbera cos of the lip on the dash and I would be concerned about how long the phone holder would last.

It's good to know there's several more options now.

I currently have the JVC AVX-2 with DAB and Ipod modules as well. Not bad for a 15 year old model...

The AVX2 is what made me look back at JVCs.. I wanted a big screen similar like the Alpine Halo, buts it was pretty damn pricey.. So I went for a x561.. Less than £200 after adding on a DAB aerial and a cheap reverse camera.. I would have bought a second hand AVX2 but the x561 will play music off your phone straight out of the box via Bluetooth and with the external mic mounted up high you can easily hold a telephone conversation even with the background noise of an AJP!

Then the trusty old nexus 7 for rs-ajp (secured by magnets for easy removal) and a magnetic wireless charging phone mount on top of the dash (but not obstructing view) for nav.. Works well and pretty neat but maybe a little busy for some..

That looks good, obviously I have the camera and dab aerial already. Current, £200 at currys or £170 elsewhere is a good price.

Where have you mounted your DAB aerial? Mine is literally thrown in behind the rear seats.. Reception is mostly OK but there are times I'm sat at a light in a dead spot.

Took me about a year to fit it because I tried every other aerial and every other location, because I wasn't sure about ruining the sleek likes - nothing on the outside.
I have a JVC Hal-4 on the top middle of the rear window, it's a sticky pad part inside the window and the other half outside.

Wire runs along the headlining, down behind the rear seats and along under the center console.

My FM aerial is a powered one that is stuck the complete length of the boot on the panel above the fuel tank. Still not great reception but much better than standard

However, when I had the MX-5 done, the dab radio on that is a small stick on aerial on the front windscreen which looks like this

When I had a Cerb, I put one of these https://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/product/kinetic-dra-... up in the N/S C-pillar from the boot. Totally invisible and worked fine, even in the poor DAB reception area I live in.

I like that.. Still looks clean.. I might have to buy one.. I like how it doesn't require any holes either.

BTW, you said you have a rear camera too? Where did you mount it? I mounted mine in the number plate!
