Large journal crankshaft

AJP Engined Cerbera Crankshaft

Currently non available from the usual stockist and I have been told it could take upwards of 16 weeks for delivery from placement of an order.

Therefore the big question - does anyone have a large journal crankshaft for sale? Got to be in great condition.

Have you tried Dom at TVR Power?

The car is at Doms at the moment. Went in to have the cracked sump replaced (rarer than hens teeth but managed to source) and when the sump was removed it was noted that the crankshaft had significant wear at the input / flange area. No large journal crankshafts available at the moment and will need to be made at significant cost and with a 16 - 20 week lead time!

Hairline crack probably due to grounding or debris in road etc. The crack passed through on the line of one the sump plugs and continued to spread overtime. Sealed it Sikaflex as temporary measure.

Thanks for the warning about the lack of spare sumps

However I reckon a hairline crack should be repairable so I wouldn't throw out your old sump just yet, it might be valuable to someone else

What cost were you quoted? A couple of years ago mine was £1750 plus vat just for the crank... just to prewarn you...

I’ve knackered Two up, in the past

One driving over one of those security poles, that you pull up once the car is in the bay... Caught the sump plug on it.

And the other sump went when I drove over what I thought was a Brown McDonalds bag.... which turned into a boulder, as I passed over it.

Being of 96 vintage my sumps are the early type with 2no. plugs and yes I intend to keep the old sump, repair and keep as a spare. At the moment I have been quoted £3k for a new crankshaft hence why I am on the lookout for one!

Ouch! If you're a 96 engine then I presume you've got the smaller journal crank currently? Hence the cost will be plus machining, bearings etc and vat. Probably around what mine cost in all to convert, I think I had something like £600 in machining costs

No I had the engine rebuilt in 2009 at great cost with a large journal crankshaft and engine uprated to 4.5.

Thanks to Ian at Rvt I managed to source a crank about 6 months ago. The cars at Power awaiting Dom and Jason to work their magic!

Can I ask what you mean by "input/ flange area " ?

Not that mechanically minded - This is my replacement crank but the wear was on my original is the area highlighted. Presume forward / backward movement of the crank caused the wear possibly from numerous gearbox replacements.
