can you run audio amp using the fuse box in boot?

hi, going to fit small amp etc myself, i think ive seen a forum before when people have said you can run amp using the fuse box in the boot?

is this correct can anyone advise! i have installed headunits in all sorts of cars, for myself and others! just a bit nervous about doing this in the cerbera???? would rather some advise just incase!!!

There's no reason why not.

There's a nice fat cable comes straight from the battery to the fuse box, and there are spare terminals on the fusebox in its input.
So just connect a decent sized fuse in series with your supply to the amp and you're away.
Don't forget a thick (10-sq or more) earth wire to the chassis - mine goes to a bit of the chassis easily accessible behind the helmet hole.
I put my amp in the little cubby hole under the fuse box. Works a dream.

hey thanks for your quick reply! exellent! i was dreading having to run a cable from engine bay! where have you got your speakers located? do u have a sub between the rear seats?

Hi, yep got an 8" sub bass between the rear seats. Its not as hard as you might think to cut a piece of MDF to the right shape, cut a hole on the centre, upholster it in appropriate colour leatherette (vinyl) and mount it in place.

I replaced the stock rear speakers with 100mm full range units which run directly from the head unit.
Front door speakers replaced with 2-way units with the tweeters mounted in the doors just above the door release button, and the crossovers hidden in the door inner skins.

The amp is an Audison, 80watts per channel (but thats a real, 80w RMS, not for-a-nanosecond power that some amps claim).

Its a 4-channel unit, the fronts are run from channels 1 & 2, 3 & 4 are bridged and run the sub with a crossover freq of abt 90Hz.

All speakers are Focals. I used their slim series ones in the doors.

I think it sounds about as good as you can get in a Cerb.

Yes - if you open the boot and on top of the fuel tank in the middle (behind multi changer) you will find a wing nut (not a big eared person). Undo it. Then you can pull the centre section out from within the car.

Where did you run the input cable (ie, from head unit to the amp?

Once you have removed the helmet holder thingy then you will find a hole in the far top corner which will lead through to the fuse box side just above the petrol tank. I have run a large wiring loom, data cables, arieal lead and a auto changer cable all through the hole cum gap.
