Thinking of replacing all of my hoses etc with the lovely braided shiny variety, with coloured nuts and stuff, question is where and how much?????

in my experience silicone hoses are a big no-no .. unless they're oil resistant they'll last no longer than rubber ones in a cerbera engine bay, they cost a fortune and so cost more when they need replacing, they'll leak for the first few weeks and you'll be forever tightening the clips (not easy on a cerbie) .. and under the cover you can't even see them.

save your money for something worthwhile

I've never had any problem with silicon hoses leaking, if anything I'd say they seal better than rubber hoses. They also withstand heat and pressure far better. Unless you're actually running oil over/through them, I would have expected silicon hoses to last a lot better than rubber. Which has got to be worthwhile if they're as difficult to get at as you say.
