Looking to get a Cerb.

Hi Chaps,

I've been an 964 C2 driver for 4 months now. It's a great car but a little too tame. Looking at getting a Cerbie, just worried about the build quality.

I have seen Chris's one on the sale page. Looks interesting.

Build quality isnt too bad on a porsche. 964s are old and slow though.

I'm a 964 C4 driver, also tempted to go over to the dark side (as far as most Porker owners see it).

I'd say build and engineering quality on Porchses is excellent, but that doesn't mean they don't go wrong or get old, and cost to keep up together. I think it's generally acknowledged that Cerbies are just a bit more fragile than 911s, but you get a lot more bang for your buck.

Not sure if 964s are actually slow, just that most TVRs are bl00dy fast! However, the Porsche owner will usually be able to make up the gap while the TVR guy waits for the AA to arrive (dons hard hat).

If you can, get yourself round to the SE London / NW Kent TVRCC meets at the Rose& Crown in Dunton Green near Sevenoaks. Lots of Cerbs there and owners who will tell you how it is.

I've owned my 4.5 for over 5 years. What's gone wrong with it?..........er.....nothing!!! What's fallen off?.....er.....nothing! Have I ever had to call out the AA, RAC etc,etc,etc to recover the Cerb? No never!
Maybe I've been lucky.....been to Le Mans this year and yesterday just returned from a weekend of "hooning" to a race meeting at Croix en Ternois with "Lake" (4.5 Cerb), and "Only Me" (Chimaera 500).

I also love Porsche 911's. I use my 1993C2 964 every day. Again, no problems in my 1 year ownership.

Both very different cars, but each very rewarding to drive. I luv 'em both!

I think you are the exception rather than the rule. You have been very lucky.
Take a look at my profile for potential costs. I feel my car is more the norm. Granted I don’t use the car enough which causes problems of its own. I have also spent a lot on cosmetic upgrades. That still leaves the engine work the suspension work the radiator clutch etc etc.
These are fantastic cars but they will sting you in the wallet at every opportunity just beware.

My brothers son has got himself a boxster s uses it most days its comfortable well put together goes well with loads of toys which all work and a few safety aids to keep him on the road all for around 30K. What it lacks IMOP is fun it just does not do anything for me and he looks like a hairdresser (sorry to all hairdressers out there) when the lids off.

I have to admit he has probably made the best financial decision.

But all that aside given the choice again, it would still be a Cerbera
