My cerb has been suffereing REALLY bad brake squeal for a few months (so bad that recently, following behind UKBob at fullish chat, he could hear the squeaks above both his and my sports exhausts:eek:).
Took the car to Austec last week and pleaded for help. They got out their fancy brake-skimming machine and within an hour, the nest of mice where completely erradicated :shoot:
Excellent job done by Austec again. I recommend anyone with brake squeal to find their local garage with one of these machines and get their brakes done, its worth every penny :)

I stood (probably rather annoyingly) next to the chap doing the skimming and checked all the disks for cracks as he was doing the skimming. 
As I understood/saw (in my case anyway), the disks themselves warp ever so slightly so catch on the pads creating the squeak on each revolution, sometimes multiple times on a disk. The front and back of the disk are skimmed 'true' by the computer skimmer thingy (ooh, look at me getting technical
)
Whilst at it the mechanics removed the pads, rubbed them down on the front/pad side and also rubbed down the (in my case) green paint on the back of the pads, which had jaggedy edges (as witnessed by 1 nasty cut)where it overlapped the front of the pad slightly, which may have been catching also.
Im not sure if the fix was a combination of all of the above, or just the skimming alone, but Im bloody glad the noise has stopped

I assume you are referring to my dither at parking when a fellow cerb driver parked across the only remaining 2 adjacent spaces, therefore leaving me floundering and a perfectly good photo opportunity ruined?

By skimming his teeth, nazal elongation and squeeling bits, his ability to generate noise is ground down to virtual ineffectiveness.

Eddie, are you talking about squealing as you apply the brakes? My squealing (Deliverance anyone?
) was happening as I was driving along. In fact, applying the brakes lestened/stopped the squealing altogether, until I took my foot off the brake and it all started again. I 'thought' I had explained how, in my case, skimming stopped the noise (shame the same thing doesnt work on UKBob
