.... Just came up in my small mind....

Are there any of you that DIDN'T own a Scalextric track ??

drivingcloud9

My first set was a CM9 with two D-Type Jags.
It was the original style of push-fit track, which was a nightmareyikes
BUT
I supplemented with adapters and the later clip-on track.
It was enormous in the end.

Sold the whole lot for £15 in '75 - DOH !

I can't remember much about my first set .. I think it was a hand-me-down from a relative. I do remember I had a shark nose ferrari and a vanwall though. The hand controllers were a squarish shape and you operated them by pushing the plunger down with your thumb .. and the metal cased transformer used to hum alarmingly!
The first set I had new as a kid was the mini cooper set.

Yup, same handcontrollers for me too, Joo, and Man they used to get Hot !.

My old man 'acquired' a fab transformer for my train set, which came in handy for the Scaillies.
It had five settings (speeds) in Forward and Reverse.
Jags didn't handle too well in reverse laughrofl

Glad to see that the Men who get their hands dirty are the first to respond thumbup

A brace each of Aston DBR1s and Cerbera Speed 12s (a recent eBay find), Paul.
My original cars included the ubiquitous single seater Coopers and the open Healey 3000s, they were bought (secondhand) for me in the late 60s.
No Jags, I've never been into them, was always only Astons for me... I even built a DBR1 bed for my youngest son laugh and it was for him that our current track was bought. The original stuff wasn't that great, as you said. Ours still comes down out of the loft with the tree and decs most Christmases and we all (Mrs TK incl) enjoy reliving our childhoods.
