Hot.....damn Hot!!

My 1999 Cerb Speed 6 has a very annoying habit. The temp gauge, when in traffic screams to 115-120 degrees. Now both the previous owner and the dealership have both said that the car is not over heating, and it is the gauge over reading. Anyone fitted an after market temp gauge on their car. Need some reassurance that the engine is not on melt down.

Also, anyone know the best oil pressure in the Speed 6. On tick over it is reading 10lbs..seems a bit low.

Oil pressure sounds low at idle, have you tried a new pressure relief switch yet ?

On my Tuscan, I was also told that there are two temp sensors, one for the ECU and one for the pod. This would mean that the car was running perfectly whilst the pod showed crazy readings.

Not sure about the fan situation in the Cerb, but after the car had overheated a few times and steam poured out, I was told that the sensor was right and it was overheating as the fans were not cutting in...

However at 115 degrees (if it is right) I would have thought that the pressure cap would have flicked open at that pressure if it was overheating.

On the oil issure my SP6 pressure sensor gave very similar readings to yours.

Again however, (very TVR...)

1) The pressure sensors are notoriously unreliable and due to failure
2) Each sensor apparantly gives a slightly different reading.

It also depends which oil you are running. I was running 0W-40 when I got the same reading as you.

In posted a similar thing about 2 months ago, and everyone told me not to worry and that the temp gauge reads over what the actual temp is.

2 weeks later, steam started pouring out of the bonnet and I had to have a new rad put in and the engine temp reader replaced!

I would get it looked at to make sure, rads arent cheap.

You can get them rebuild for about £100, not cheap but not too bad.

Hi there. My SP6 often goes up to an indicated 105-110 in hot weather and traffic. I had the ECU plugged in at a dealer recently and the maximum true temperature (at least that reported by the ECU) was 90.

As long as it's coming down when the fans come on and no steam's coming out, I wouldn't worry. If you're concerned get your dealer or indie to plug in their laptop.

Yup that's what mine does too - probably indicator of TVR re-design botch often alluded to elsewhere on PH. TVRCraft this autumn anybody?

Thanks for you help gents. Going to get it plugged in to see what they say. Then just keep an eye out for the steam I spose.
