Number plates - need some quick!
Discussion
I had some plates made up recently for my '95 chim, they are standard size, but the font is about 10mm smaller on the height of each letter. They are very readable and I thought all would be well.
But...yesterday I was pulled over at slow speed (I was slowing down to pull in at a roadside post box to drop off some letters) when police car pulls in behind me and puts on blue lights etc.
The middle aged policeman gets out and asks me if I knew why I'd been pulled over? (I had already stopped when he pulled up!) He then went on to say that my number plate was unreadable, the said that I was committing 4 offences as it was wrong font, wrong size, there was no BS mark on the plates and that there was no name of the people who had made the plates displayed.
He took all of my details and sadi that he would drive round near my house to check that I had changed them this week, and if I hadn't he would give me a ticket for each offence!
I said that it wasn't that easy to get plates made up as the rear has to let light through for the number plate lights to show up, and he told me this was a new one on him and that halfords could make any plate up! well they can't and the guy there didnt believe me either!
Any idea where I can get some plates made up local to tamworth, staffs, preferably somewhere that is open to 6 (or later) so that I can get there after work, as I am going away in the tiv at the weekend and can't be doing with the hassle!

OK, I admit that they are a bit small, but nothing like some people get away with,

www.fancyplates.com can do next-day delivery, AFAIK. Not sure whether they have the kitemark, etc. though.
yes and when you try www.fancyplates.com, you even can stay at home.. call 028 81648999. Good luck!
Sorry, but what an arse!
You do not need a BS mark unless they are recently made plates, before Jan this year I believe.
But as yours are obviously the wrong font that one won't stand up. fancy plates are great but as they are in N. Ireland do not come under the same legislation as in the Uk, and these wont come with a BS mark or makers post code either.
My advise would be - forget the bacl lit plate issue, take your driving licence, log book and a recent utility bill to Halfrauds and get them to make you up a set, as for the BiB driving past your house, if the cars off the public highway there's bugger all he can do about it, a nice plate like FUK 0FF would look good when the cars at home.

Thanks for the comments, the ones that I have at the minute came from fancyplates as did the previous ones that I've had on many cars over the years all with similar fonts. In fact I've just ordered some from them with green border and green gb badge and tvr logo as the pair on the car, but with uk standard font. I've also asked for backlit option.
I couldn't believe his stance on bs mark either, how petty, in fact he explained "that when they aren't busy, they pick up things like this as the public keep pushing their luck too much" his words, honest!!! I was made to feel like a spotty 18 year old with a nova with no tax or test etc. Annoyed didn't come close!
Perhaps, its something to do with sunny day + nice car = lets pull him over, or perhaps I'm just biased, never get pulled in my MG midget!
