the engine, ie is it cold before you start it. Is it noisey (should have a tell tale sound until it warms up). Is oil pressure at 70 / 80 and then after 20 mins is it at 60/70 under load and 40 ish at idle.
Does the owner have a warm up routine eg not over 3K revs until 5 miles, not over 4k until 10 miles. Does the owner sound passionate. Lots of bills. Recent MOT,

.... but all gauges are different though (right ?) For example, my oil pressure reads at 50 when cold then goes down to just over 40 when hot and on idle at 30. Would it be fair to say that you could ask what this particulat cars readings are before you start up then engine?

I always thought with (TVR) gauges you should know your "own" - and then keep an eye out for differences. The owner should be able to describe them first (you'll then know whether he/she pays attention) - same is true for the water temp. which can be equally individual

I'm lending my Brother-in-law my car for a week and have made very detailed readings off what he should be getting (from my particular car)

..... cue replies about the state of my oil pressure

I agree, my oil pressure is about 60 when cold, droping to 50 when warm and about 45 at warm idle

Get it inspected if you dont know what you are looking at. I used Rob Ingleby, some of the better money I spent on the car so far

Chassis condition is very important, especially if the powder coating has lifted as this can harbour some serious corrosion

The powder coating has lifted on every Cerbie chassis I've seen, lol.

All sound like a bag of nails cold and should be driven sensibly till warmed up. After that it should sound sweet and pull smoothly and strongly from 3.5K upwards. Throttle may feel a little dull on 4.5, 4.2's much more snappy.

Best advice is when you think you have found the right car get it inspected by an expert and make sure it goes on an overhead ramp.

Good luck

Agreed, unless it's a very early car then chassis corrosion isn't a major issue .. but will be eventually if you don't take sensible precations to protect the chassis once you get yourself a car. Lots of very high temp grease on any exposed metal areas is my usual plan of attack on any cars i see.

Don't let a bit of flaky powder coating put you off an otherwise good car, some people just like scaremongering ... if in any doubt get it inspected by a cerbera specialist .. someone like andy at APM would be ideal.

Tend to keep away from people who do mobile inspections unless you can make sure the car goes on a ramp .. I've seen a few cars that have had mobile inspections done and the number of under-car items missed is alarming.

Flakey powder coating is fine, infact dropped off powder coating and suface rust is OK, but sometimes the powder coating can stay intact but lift trapping moisture and causing possible serious rot, this can happen and doesn't apply to all Cerberas.

Good luck and yes get one of the idependant specialists to check one over for you.

Rob inspected mine at a dealership, although I bought privately through PH, so he was able to get him up on a ramp

That would be mine

It's in the classifieds on PH but I don't know what your budget is, mine might be too old for what you are looking for and obviously I'm in Leeds (not quite on your doorstep).

It has been great though, I just fancy a change.

I can only say as I found. Had the car re-inspected by a respected indy, who only found 2 smallish problems that Rob hadnt spotted.
