Odd starting issue - any thoughts on fix?
Discussion
Finally had the car back on Friday after a 4 month wait and an engine out (new main and big end bearing plus crank polish) and worked like a dream for the journey home... stoppped for petrol half way and no drama heading home on a 3 hour drive. Went home and then out a bit later to pick my son up from school, parked up and then re-started 5 minutes later... pulled away but when came to a stop at the junction putting clutch in, the car just cut out and would not start again. Engine was turning over but would not ignite. Waited about half an hour for everything to cool down and it started fine.
Some shorter local journeys on Saturday and no dramas. Then on Sunday, had a fantastic drive up to Amore with the Hampshire TVRCC, again a couple of short stops on the way up without issue. But a petrol stop on the way home and the same thing happened. 1st start up is fine but as soon as i put the clutch in to come to a stop at the 1st junction it just cut out again. There was no restarting this time so called the AA who suggested the spark plugs were flooded so he cleared out the excess fuel which got us going again. He recommended to look at the replacing the temperature sensor to see if that fixes it, but i wondered if anyone else on here may have a similar experience and advice please?

By cranking with the throttle wide open?I think flooding is very unlikely myself, I reckon it's more likely there was no fuel, possibly because of a ECU, immobiliser, or relay issue
Mine had a tendency to stall particularly on a hot start. Similar sounding. By coincidence I’ve not long had the bottom end rebuilt too. Anyway, initially I put it down to fuel vaporisation.
However I’ve just put on a new set of throttle pots that I bought from Jools and I set the engine up and I seem to have eradicated this and have a better idle. The old TPs weren’t displaying any issues, I just wanted to progressively replace bits that may cause issues.
I suspect my engine was over due a tune up and I could have easily knocked a TP during the engine out job.

The start of an immobiliser problem? I had this, the immobiliser would randomly cut power to the fuel pump, the worse was in the outside lane of the M4 at rush hour. The initial fix was to disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes and reconnect - but it set all the alarm off everytime...
It did it at a petrol station...
I rapidly got the immobiliser replaced.

Thanks all, the throttle pots were changed not long ago, it could be an immobiliser, but it has so far only happened when hot. I've had an engineer / mechanic friend look over everything and can't see anything obvious, so will get the car booked in at a specialist for a check over to see if they can find anything...
